Julian Alexander is a filmmaker, educator, and performer born and raised in Norfolk, VA before moving to Las Cruces, New Mexico where his filmmaking journey began. His Bachelor’s degree thesis from New Mexico State University "Buffalo" was a period drama about the Buffalo Soldiers starring Craig Tate (Twelve Years A Slave, Snowfall, Reprisal). Julian obtained his Masters of Fine Arts degree from the Northern Film School in Leeds, UK, culminating with two short films, :Léo" - nominated for Best Post Graduate Film at the Royal Television Awards starring Houda Echouafni (The Boy With Two Hearts, Grenfell - National Theatre) and "Beat Blue", A police drama all in rhyme starring Lana Young (A Jazzman's Blues, WandaVision) Julian has written, directed, and starred in a phone based web series produced by Story Island Productions, titled "Bad JuJu", about a rapper navigating his career in New Mexico, featuring in and winning multiple webseries' festivals globally. Most recently his film Layla, At Last, funded by the Sharjah Art Foundation shot in Spain and Morocco. Julian is a founder and co-manager of Diversity Decoded. The company gives explanations and strategies to help HR practitioners recognize and respond effectively when they encounter DEI opportunities and challenges. It is designed for varying levels of knowledge and experience with information that is based on current research. When he is not leading a film set, Julian is leading a classroom as a professor and lecturer. Julian is also a researcher with his work involving adapting classic literature using hip-hop practice.
