Hello! Thank you for checking out my profile.  Here's my story.

Business exists to solve problems. Humans solve problems every day without realizing it. Agree?  I love solving problems and thrive in finding innovative solutions. When I'm not solving problems, I am out there learning something new - in class, through mentoring, volunteering, networking events, reading, using ChatGPT or even talking to strangers!  As an introvert, this was a challenge that I overcame - socializing strategically!

I'm currently attending a 6-month part-time course in BCG RISE (Rapid Immersion Skills Enhancement), learning Digital Transformation Change Management (DTCM).  I've also started my entrepreneurial journey at Uli's Kitchen, promoting Malay Kuih, and my mission is to protect the Malay Kuih legacy from becoming extinct! 🌟 How are you utilizing your SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career) Top-Up of $4,000?


When the announcement came in early January about the $4,000 SkillsFuture SG credits available from 1 May 2024 for those above 40, I was thrilled. However, the excitement was short-lived as daily routines took over, and I completely forgot about it!

A reminder from a friend came yesterday when she sent me this photo displayed in her apartment lift.  This photo was taken from the SkillsFuture interview I did with CNA last month.

I spent an hour poring over the SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme article but ended up more confused about which of the 7,454 courses are eligible. I’m now considering a 1-to-1 consultation with the Skills Ambassadors to help navigate this maze and make an informed decision.

Continuing from yesterday's post, let's dive into the fun and creative collaborations that sparked from the IDEAs workshop!

Creative Collaborations:

I had a fantastic time collaborating with Regina Lim from Simply R&J, who upcycled old chinaware into gorgeous, tiered stands. We paired these with Uli's Kitchen’s vegan & gluten-free Nagasari and vegetarian Pineapple balls and Ondeh-Ondeh tarts, which received rave reviews!

Networking Over Lunch:

Lunch with inspiring Malay Muslim womenpreneurs such as Annisa Rosli, Hashimah G, and Nazihah Ali sparked fascinating discussions, from innovative business ideas to personal experiences like childbirth!

Unexpected Runway Fun:

The highlight? A spontaneous catwalk modelling session for Claudia Tan’s Kaftan fashion line called Maia by Claudia.  These slim handmade kaftans are produced in Singapore by Stay-at-Home moms.  Of course, I had to join in! 😍

Discovering Black Rice Milk:

Another exciting moment was receiving a sample of RICEPATHY black rice milk from Lindy Heng. I tried it with my coffee and granola breakfast, and it was awesome! It's gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, and contains no nuts, soy, or artificial flavours and colourings, all packed in eco-friendly cartons. I'm thrilled about the potential of using this unique ingredient in Uli’s Kitchen to create innovative kuih recipes. 

These moments of learning and laughter show how enriching and fun networking can be. Can't wait to see how these insights and new connections will help propel Uli's Kitchen forward! 🚀

Recognizing Self-Sabotage in Entrepreneurship: My Weekend with Kuihs.


This past weekend, as I prepared batches of Harum Manis and Kaswi for a customer, I found myself caught in a whirlwind of self-doubt. Despite the kuihs turning out visually appealing in the photos, I was plagued by thoughts that they weren't as good as previous batches. The Harum Manis's colour seemed too pale, and the Kaswi felt too chewy. I even considered apologizing to the customer for these perceived imperfections.

Throughout the day, I was harsh on myself, a classic sign of self-sabotage. It wasn't until I sought feedback from my mom and the customer that my fears were alleviated. To my relief, both shared that they—and the guests—loved the kuihs.

Reflecting on this, I recognized several signs of self-sabotaging behaviour:

𝐍𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤: Telling myself my creations weren’t good enough undermines confidence and self-esteem.

𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦: The urge to redo the kuihs to achieve an unattainable ideal almost took over if not for time constraints.

𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: Agreeing to an earlier pickup without considering my own needs led to unnecessary stress and a sleepless night.

𝐈𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤: Initially dismissing my mom's positive comments, I waited for customer validation to shake off the negativity.

This experience made me wonder if self-sabotage is more prevalent among those of us who set high standards or lean towards perfectionism.

Engaging, Educational, Exhilarating!


What a day! Yesterday's IDEAs workshop on digital marketing and digital content development was nothing short of inspiring. Facilitated by experts Nick Goh and Charmaine Lee, the day was packed with hands-on activities that pushed us to explore and expand our understanding of the digital space.

I'll split my key takeaways into two posts to do justice to the wealth of knowledge shared. This first part will dive into the strategic insights and hands-on experiences from the workshop.

𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐍𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐆𝐨𝐡 𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬:

✅Objective Setting: What are your goals?
✅KPIs: Focus on leads, conversions, and customer engagement.
✅Target Audience: Who are you speaking to?
✅Messaging: Ensure your message resonates.

Dynamic Collaboration:

Alongside my Kuih Kakis Forever group, we refined Uli's Kitchen's customer segmentation and consumer decision journey. Thanks to insights from Janice Lum 林函蓁 Executive CoachI Soundwave Art-based Coach, an innovative executive coach, and Gwen Koh, a leader in psychotherapy consulting, we enhanced our understanding of our audience, which will directly impact our marketing strategies.

𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞’𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭:

We practised the AIDA framework, focusing on crafting compelling social media posts using Canva. AIDA is one of the Buying Process Framework.  Charmaine also shared invaluable tips on content creation, such as keeping titles concise, using consistent fonts, and choosing the right colours.

Responsible Use of Images:

Did you know that using images from Google searches could cause copyright infringement? To avoid this, Charmaine recommended using commercial-free images and illustrations from trusted sources like pexel.com and pixabay.com.

Mastering Networking: The Power of Personal Connections.


I've always valued one-on-one meetings far above crowded networking events. These intimate interactions prove their worth time and again:

🤝 𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 - Sitting down with someone, one-on-one, isn't just about swapping contact info. It's a chance to understand who they are and what drives them, which is often lost in larger gatherings.

🤝 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 - These talks naturally focus on mutual interests, creating a rare and invaluable level of engagement. It’s a sharp focus that not even a Michelin-approved Hainanese chicken rice can distract you.

🤝 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 - Smaller settings allow for genuine conversations, cutting through the noise to discover what motivates someone.

A recent chat with Hong Hai Lee, an accomplished executive in supply chain and logistics and a fellow RISE by BCG U attendee, drove these points home. Beyond his industry expertise, his passion for sketching adds a unique twist to his profile. Our lunch was filled with rich, engaging discussions about our careers. His intense passion for his pursuits brought me back to the energy I had when I first started.

Yesterday at the IDEAs workshop on Customer Development, Brenda Tan challenged us: Is scaling up always the right move? Sometimes, staying small is strategic, too. It all comes down to what you truly want from your business.

📌 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐯𝐬. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭: Do you prefer a passion project that pays you $500 monthly, or are you gunning for major growth that could deliver $1mil revenue annually? Where does Uli's Kitchen fit into this spectrum? It’s crucial to decide what I value more.

Hands up if you take photos of your food before eating? 🙋‍♀️ 🙋‍♂️ 


I’ve always embraced this habit, not just as a food lover but also for practical reasons:

1.	Health Monitoring - Keeping a visual food diary helps track down the source if I ever face food-related health issues.
	
2.	Culinary Inspiration - Photos from my travels become a recipe book of sorts, allowing me to recreate flavours I’ve enjoyed abroad.

3.	Social Sharing - My social media feeds also serve as a personal catalog of culinary inspiration for those days when I’m unsure what to cook.

Recently, my hobby has taken on new significance. I’m participating in the Singapore Makan initiative by the National Library Board where volunteers document local culinary experiences. This project, “Singapore Memories - Documenting Our Stories Together,” allows me to contribute by capturing “What’s On My Table,” combining my love for food photography with a mission to preserve Singapore’s rich culinary heritage. I will also be submitting my favourite hawker centre stall in another assignment.

Just last week, I documented 12 unique meals and stories, including offerings from Uli's Kitchen, to highlight and preserve our local kuih traditions.

It’s gratifying to merge my passion for food with meaningful projects that celebrate our culture.

SkillsFuture Ambassador vs. ChatGPT - who gives better advice?


Last week I shared my dilemma regarding the optimal use of my $4,000 SkillsFuture SG credits. This week, I sought guidance from two distinct sources: a SkillsFuture ambassador and ChatGPT-4 by OpenAI.

Here’s the advice I received:

👩🏽‍💻From the SkillsFuture Ambassador:

1. Download the "Skills Demand for the Future Economy 2023/24" report from SkillsFuture website.

2. Review the priority skills listed for the emerging sectors. For example in the Green Economy, I could choose Carbon Footprint Management skills on page 45.

3. Search for relevant courses on Carbon Footprint, such as a specialist diploma from a higher learning institute, typically a year-long commitment.

4. Consider the Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance 2.0 (ACLP 2.0) to potentially teach or facilitate SkillsFuture-funded courses, providing an additional income stream or a new career path as a trainer.
