As Co-Founder and President of Five Star Life, I was given the extreme privilege to help birth a profound organization dedicated to inspiring students to live a Five Star rated life.  We started with a dream, recruited 5 volunteers to help  impact 50 students at one school.  Today, Five Star is serving 9 school corporations, 14 schools, serving approx. 1,900 students annually thanks to the help of 300+ volunteers, 10 full-time staff and an entire network of committed donors.  I helped rally the business community to champion the lives of our youth.  My main areas of responsibilities were fund development, donor recruitment, public relations, marketing, and I served as the number 1 fan of the Five Star Life program.

Opened an office from scratch in Caro, Michigan serving clients with their financial service needs.  I also served my region as the New IR Support Specialist training new financial advisors in our region.  I received the firms Pace Setter award and was offered Limited Partnership in 2003.  I turned down the generous opportunity, resigned from the firm and set on a course to pursue my dream.

Today they’re at $8.5 BILLION in revenue. 1,000 stores. 50,000 employees. Completely debt-free....

Everything I thought I knew about success, retirement, and legacy just got flipped upside down....

Here are a few takeaways 👇

1/  Legacy is what you put in motion TODAY.

Not what you leave behind when you're gone.

David said it straight: "Legacy is what you're designing RIGHT NOW to impact the next generation and the one after that."

That hit me HARD...

What am I building today that will last 150 years?

2/ God thinks in GENERATIONS, not single lifetimes.

• His entire family (40+ people) ALL live in Oklahoma City 
• They meet monthly, quarterly, AND annually as a family 
• They have a 150-YEAR MISSION STATEMENT

We've lost this in America. We kick kids out at 18. Retire to live for ourselves. Find our identity in careers instead of family.

David's challenging ALL of that.

Family is a TEAM 💪

3/ You're not the OWNER. You're a STEWARD.

When you think you own it, you ask "What do I want?"

When you know you're a steward, you ask "What does GOD want?"

David gives 50% of profits to ministry. 50%! 🙌

Closed stores on Sundays (their MOST profitable day) because obedience beats strategy.

Reduced products from 30,000 to 7,000 and INCREASED revenue.

This isn't about money. It's about surrendering EVERYTHING.

4/ Retirement isn't biblical. David's PROOF at 83.

• Works 6 days a week 
• "Why retire at the peak of my wisdom, connections, and skill?" 
• Prays continuously for guidance 🙏 
• Still launching 30 NEW stores a year

He's more focused than most people in their 30s....

He's not building for himself. He's building for GENERATIONS. For ETERNITY.

Always being positive doesn't work... Here's why.

If you want to be a great leader....you need emotional intelligence to know when to encourage and when to correct...

I learned this the hard way my sophomore year on the basketball team....

I was Mr. Energy. Always positive. Pumping everybody up. Coach called a timeout and I'm coming in hot trying to cheer everybody up. Get them excited.

Coach looks at me and says "Maust, quit being a cheerleader!!!"

I shrunk. I shriveled up.

But here's what I learned....there's a time for everything.

In leadership, you can't always be cheering everybody on. And you can't always have your thumb on people telling them they suck.

Here's what to avoid:

Always being the cheerleader....giving blue ribbons for every little thing...

Always being the corrector....putting your thumb on people all the time...

Not paying attention to what THIS person needs RIGHT NOW...

Missing opportunities to level up their game...

Creating a culture where people can never do enough OR never get held accountable...

Pay attention. Listen. Observe. What does this person need Encouragement or correction? Celebration or accountability?

There's a time for everything!!!

Think about your team members. Who needs encouragement right now? Who needs correction?

Assess yourself. Are you ALWAYS the cheerleader? Or ALWAYS the corrector?

Practice emotional intelligence. Pay attention to what people need in the moment..

The regret hits. The frustration builds. You start beating yourself up....

It's so easy to stay stuck there….

To lose momentum. To avoid making it right. To bury the mistake and hope it goes away.

But there’s immense power in refusing to let that happen….

The biggest game changer in my life has been an unrelenting commitment to forgive myself fast!!!

The moment you see the failure, move. Seek forgiveness. Rekindle the relationship.

The only time you truly fail is when you refuse to fail FORWARD.

Committing to forgive yourself fast protects what matters most...Your relationships. Your momentum. Your progress.

This has been a game-changer for me and hope it helps you!!!

You bought the book. Listened to the podcast. Took notes at the conference. But 6 months later...nothing has changed...

That's because there are 3 parts to GROWTH...

1. Commit to intentional growth
2. Find the right content
3. Apply the knowledge

Most leaders CRUSH Step 1 and Step 2...

They commit. They consume. They learn.

But then they get STUCK between Step 2 and Step 3.

They collect knowledge...but never DO anything with it.

If you don't DO something with what you learned... YOU DIDN'T GROW.

I've made all 3 of these mistakes myself...So today I'm breaking down what can keep you stuck between learning and growing and exactly how to push through to Step 3 🔥🔥🔥

𝟭/ 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

You finished the book. Great. But there's no urgency to ACT on it. "Someday" you'll apply those principles. "Eventually" you'll execute that strategy. But "someday" becomes never. And "eventually" never comes. You need a deadline. Read the book on Monday. Apply ONE thing by Friday. That's how growth works.

𝟮/ 𝗬𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴.

• Too many takeaways from the content
• No focus on what matters MOST right now
• Overwhelmed by all the things you "should" do
• Paralyzed by options so you do NOTHING

Pick ONE thing. Just one. Apply it. Get the result. THEN move to the next thing. 💯💯💯

𝟯/ 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗲.

No one is asking "Did you do it?" so it falls off your radar. You had good intentions. But life got busy. The urgent crowded out the important. And 3 weeks later that book is collecting dust. Growth dies in isolation. You need someone in your corner asking the hard questions and holding you accountable to execute what you learned.

Here are a few things that I have found helpful when I find myself stuck...

• Take a clarity break THIS WEEK.
• Get honest about what is keeping you stuck.
• Pick ONE thing you've learned recently that you haven't applied yet.
• Tell someone what you're going to do and WHEN you're going to do it.

Then START MOVING!!!

An intentional growth plan will take your leadership and your life to another level!
