Head of Engineering - Supply Chain

Led the external interface of our organisation to develop and apply Producibility principles on build and commissioning activities on a major national programme. The role involved identification and progression of cross functional opportunities to standardise and simplify product design, whilst influencing the enterprise partners to improve methods and reduce the risk of errors. I also helped set up our Producibility strategy in the Supply Chain, including the set up of Data systems and the Operating Model, and influenced the Procurement organisation to shift from reactive to proactive quality management.

Producibility Manager

Manufacturing Quality: 
Managed assurance, compliance and quality improvement activities within two domestic facilities that manufacture combustion systems, casings and fabricated commodities. I built the "quality case" for the plant which provided essential plant quality health check to senior leadership. I also reinvigorated "quality circles" within combustion and casings to address causes of non-conformance, and helped launch electronic checks to improve compliance.

Supply Chain Quality – Europe: 
Led acceleration effort to improve quality performance of 7 strategic suppliers in Europe by coaching, supporting and promoting industry standards. These were focused interventions to ensure suppliers had robust improvement programmes with the right ingredients and governance to achieve Zero Defects. There was emphasis on building organisational capability, instilling leadership behaviours and enabling cultural change in the organisations to enable self-sustenance

Quality Manager

Acted as the Technical Authority responsible for Governance and Programme Delivery of Verification solutions across the Method of Manufacture for all commodities produced within 3 factories as well as the supply chain. This included the introduction of new solutions on NPI programme and Continuous Improvement of existing techniques. The role spanned across teams of circa 30 engineers, technologists and technicians structured within Inspection, NDE and Metallurgical Lab teams, each led by respective Section Leads

Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Led a team of 10 Component Owners in Fabricated Components team to deliver robust Production Support and New Product Introduction activities on concurrent programmes, covering 78% of commodities manufactured on site. Accountable for Quality and Lead-time improvements across the value stream and providing technical support to Operations in 2 factories. The role required not only strong Technical skills, but also Leadership elements of Workload Prioritisation, Stakeholder Management, Cross-functional team engagement and sub-contract Resource Management to meet Programme deliverables.

Manufacturing Engineering Team Leader

Owned the Method of Manufacture of 4 high value components in a highly visible role. Delivered Technical Governance and Change activities in a Cross-functional organisation. Delivered product and process validations while managing sub-contract Engineering resource to enable Re-introduction of legacy product into manufacture. I also exploited opportunities to influence Make-Buy strategy and enabled significant programme recovery

Component Owner

IPT Lead role within Pre-production organisation to develop and mature the Method of Assembly (01, 03 & 04 Modules) on Trent XWB-84, -97 (Airbus A350) and Trent 1000-TEN (Boeing 787). The role involved robust application of NPI Process Landscape utilising Design for Manufacture, Build-in Quality and Rate Readiness activities to enable Entry into Service and Technical Transfer of a matured Manufacturing Technical Package to the Production Facility.

NPI Technical Lead

Chromalloy

Developed and validated repair and coating systems on Turbine Blades and Nozzle Guide Vanes for OEM and Aftermarket customers (inc. Rolls-Royce, Siemens, GE, Snecma and ABB). Negotiated with Aerospace and Energy customers the scope of repair and extension of repairability limits to balance product Quality, Cost and Delivery. Gained Engineering knowledge of Material Addition, Removal, Joining and Heat Treatment processes to induce required Material Phase Transformations to enable suitability for engine operation. Generated and improved technical instructions on a range of Coating application processes including Overlay, Diffusion and Electro-plating. This was supported by qualitative and quantitative analyses of Microstructures and utilisation of Statistical techniques to improve Process Capability.
