I've worked at a handful of tech startups, and no matter where I landed, the swag problem followed me. Here’s how it usually plays out: • At the last minute (it's always last minute), some exec remembers that the team needs swag. • The task gets handed over to anyone willing to take it (hint, most people don't know the pains of swag by this point) • Some poor soul (typically myself) start multi-threading vendors like we’re organizing a rocket launch, but nope, it’s just polos. • We finally agree on a design… then realize we forgot to collect everyone’s sizes. Cue the Excel sheet. • The vendor won’t budge on the 50-unit minimum, even though we only need 18. • Polos arrive. Victory? Not yet, now I need to figure out how to ship them to teammates in the UK and France. Now rinse and repeat — for onboarding swag, event kits, anniversary gifts, client thank-yous, you name it.
