Take BIC as a prime example. This global stationery brand introduced the BIC Cristal Ballpoint pen in 1950—the first mass-produced, disposable pen. What’s remarkable? It’s hardly changed since its launch.

🔹 The barrel was reshaped to a hexagonal design for better grip.
🔹 A small vent was added to the barrel to prevent vacuum buildup.

That’s all.

The lesson here? Redesign only when there’s a clear customer need. If the market isn’t demanding a new version, innovation for the sake of it can undermine your success. Staying focused on what works is often the best strategy.

The World's First Bicycle-Riding Robot | Primer v2 Robot

Meet PRIMER-V2, the remarkable fusion of technology and mobility! Dr. Guero has ingeniously connected a KHR3HV bipedal robot to a custom bike, showcasing a perfect blend of mechanics and robotics.

The robot pedals with adjustable speed using its feet, steering just like a regular bike with its hands, all under the remote control of a human operator. What sets PRIMER-V2 apart is its stability mechanism, leveraging the inertial centrifugal effect of the front wheel and a gyro assisted by a PID controller for precise steering, especially during straight-line drives.

Interestingly, when the robot steers, it dynamically adjusts its posture, leaning into turns by bending at the waist. The braking system is equally innovative - lifting the feet off the pedals and pointing them downward, using the metal feet as friction brakes. PRIMER-V2 can effortlessly move backward and forward while in brake mode, and seamlessly transition back to pedaling by lifting one foot onto a pedal, followed by the other, triggering the PID controller.

Human intervention plays a role in the transition from braking to pedaling, involving setting the pedal at the lowest position. A subtle (6 deg) angle lag between the leading foot and the other ensures smooth pedal action, preventing interference between the rising foot and the downward torque of the other.

100 Million Tree Seeds Released in the Amazon! 

Luigi Cani, a world-renowned Brazilian skydiver, recently took a daring leap to address the critical issue of deforestation in the Amazon. Cani jumped from a plane over a deforested area of the rainforest, releasing 100 million seeds from 27 different tree species.

This incredible feat was the result of five years of meticulous planning, securing permits, designing a special biodegradable box for the seeds, and transporting tons of equipment and a film crew to the Amazon. Each seed was hand-collected from nearby rainforests two months prior to the jump to ensure their viability.

Despite numerous challenges, including failed test boxes and personal injuries, Cani successfully released the seeds from approximately 6,000 feet above the ground. With an impressive germination rate of over 95%, these seeds are expected to grow into trees that can reach up to 50 meters in height. The full impact of this initiative will be monitored via satellite over the next two years.

Cani faced significant difficulties during the jump. "I struggled to hold onto the box and nearly broke my wrist and fingers. I managed to stabilize myself at around 6,000 feet, and the seeds were released exactly where we wanted them. It was pure ecstasy."

Cani continues to use his daring stunts for greater causes. Looking ahead, he plans a future jump focusing on ocean plastic. "I've been jumping for 25 years and always pushed the limits with risky jumps. Now, at 51, I no longer seek danger for its own sake. I want to do something meaningful. Just like the seed drop, this next project will have real significance."
