I am a Horn Distinguished Professor and Endowed Chair in Public Policy and Public Law in the Dept. of Political Science at Texas Tech University. In June 2021, I joined The Nature Conservancy as their Chief Scientist; prior to that, I co-directed the TTU Climate Center, an interdisciplinary center across the university, and was the founder and CEO of ATMOS Research. I have a B.Sc. in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Toronto, an MS and PhD in Atmospheric Science from the University of Illinois, and four honourary doctorates. I am also a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Geophysical Union, the American Scientific Affiliation, and an honourary fellow of the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society. My research focuses on developing and applying high-resolution climate projections to evaluate the impacts of climate change on human society and the natural environment. I've work with cities, states, non-profits and federal agencies to bridge the gap between climate science and on-the-ground planning, and served as lead author on the Second, Third, and Fourth and an author on the Fifth U.S. National Climate Assessment.
