With a psychology, neurology and PR (Comms) background and experience running her own dance business, the opportunity for fairly unique projects arose. All projects align with this ethos:

Heartspace International

With qualifications in psychology, PR, and business, Katherine worked on the first ever National Inquiry into Self-harm and read every testimony in a National call for evidence in the media as well as shaping the outcome of the Inquiry with her research. She felt privileged to be let into the most intimate moments of crisis people were experiencing.

Katherine also worked, danced, and developed resources for Disney, The National Schools Partnership UK, and in Australia, ran community development for a local branch of the National Youth Mental Health Foundation. A trained developmental movement play specialist, with a background in functional neuroanatomy, she saw common threads between what helped people to cope, and what made them thrive. 

As an avid arts enthusiast witnessing powerful results, this unique insight led to projects that involve dance, music, and the well-being of young people. Her mission is to help people understand how they can attain emotional freedom through the senses using sensory intelligence, human connection, and digital strategy.

Cre8dance

I started conversations about Cre8dance International upon returning to Australia in 2008 (following on from running Lifedance in the UK) and it has evolved to become an online strategy.

Cre8dance has been set up to encourage confidence and creativity through digital online dance content - linking dancers with local choreographers and also providing an International platform. With 8 weeks to create, dancers form their own routine from weekly released choreography blocks and can share their creation with the community.

Aftercare - headspace

Aftercare is the longest-serving mental health charity in Australia, with services in over 40 locations across the country; committed to continuously evolving to meet the needs of all Australians. 

As Community Development Coordinator for headspace Nundah, Brisbane, my role has involved identifying needs in the community, scoping, consulting, supporting, and empowering to create strategies that deliver positive outcomes. 

During my time at headspace, I have built and maintained many positive long term key partnerships which have been the key to the success of many of our projects.

Mental Health Foundation

The Mental Health Foundation is the UK’s leading mental health research, policy and service improvement charity.

My role included building an understanding of mental health in the community, with consumers accessing and wanting to provide evidence of their experience in emerging and existing areas of mental health. Literature reviews and qualitative research were conducted, as the foundation attempted to provoke and respond to innovation and development. 

As the only dedicated researcher on a ground-breaking National Inquiry into Self-harm Among Young People we released a final report with exclusive media partnership with the UK's Guardian newspaper. Being an organiser of many panel meetings and events was an exciting challenge.
