At VATT IP Management, I have had the privilege of playing an instrumental part in establishing and leading a consulting firm that specializes in comprehensive intellectual property management. Our services cater to a diverse range of clients, including small and large businesses, as well as boutique and large patent law firms.

I oversee the creation and management of comprehensive IP portfolios, ensuring our clients' intellectual property assets are strategically developed and protected. This involves working closely with attorneys, inventors and businesses to identify and cultivate innovative ideas, guiding them through the entire process from conception to patenting. Our tailored approach ensures that each client's unique needs and objectives are met, whether they are seeking to build a strong IP portfolio or enhance their existing one.

A key component of our services is invention development. I collaborate with clients to refine their inventions, providing education on what patent examiners look for when deciding to grant a patent, assessing market potential, and planning strategic positioning. This hands-on involvement helps clients maximize the value of their innovations and navigate the complexities of the patent process.

IP risk management is another critical area of focus. I lead efforts to identify and mitigate potential IP risks, helping clients avoid costly litigation and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations. By proactively addressing these risks, we help businesses safeguard their intellectual property and maintain a competitive edge.

Throughout my tenure, I have had the privilege of working with some of the brightest minds in the industry, both within our company and among our clients. This collaborative environment has allowed me to continuously learn and grow, further honing my expertise in IP management and ensuring our clients achieve their fullest potential.

In this role, I conducted in-depth prior art searches and analysis to support patentability assessments. I assisted in drafting and preparing patent applications, ensuring technical accuracy and adherence to legal requirements. Collaborating with patent attorneys, I developed strategies for intellectual property protection and prosecution. My responsibilities included reviewing and analyzing technical documents, drawings, and specifications to provide expert opinions on patent matters. I also participated in the preparation of responses to office actions from the USPTO, contributing technical expertise to strengthen patent claims. Additionally, I supported patent litigation efforts by researching prior art and providing technical insights for legal arguments. Engaging directly with inventors to understand their innovations, I provided guidance on patentability and the patent application process.

During this period, I was mentored by some of the best patent attorneys in the field, who provided invaluable insights and guidance. Their mentorship enriched my understanding of intellectual property law and practice, helping me develop a nuanced perspective on the complexities and strategies involved in patent prosecution and litigation.

Freelancing as a Technical Specialist offered me a unique and rewarding opportunity to contribute to the protection and advancement of innovative ideas from a new vantage point. It deepened my appreciation for the collaborative efforts required to navigate the intellectual property landscape and reinforced my commitment to excellence in this field.

As a Patent Examiner, I played a critical role in the intellectual property landscape by evaluating patent applications to determine if they met the legal and technical requirements for patentability. My position involved a deep understanding of patent laws, technical knowledge in specific fields, and the ability to analyze complex information.

In my role, I examined patent applications to ensure they complied with statutory and regulatory requirements, assessing the novelty, non-obviousness, and industrial applicability of the claimed inventions. I conducted comprehensive searches of existing patents, scientific literature, and other relevant sources to identify prior art, analyzing it to determine its relevance to the claimed invention. 

My responsibilities also included interpreting and applying relevant patent laws, regulations, and guidelines to the examination process, as well as analyzing technical documents and drawings to understand the scope and details of the invention. Based on thorough analysis and evidence, I made informed decisions on the patentability of inventions, granting or rejecting patent applications as appropriate.

Collaboration was a key part of my role, working with other patent examiners and supervisors to resolve complex issues and ensure consistency in patent examination practices. I actively participated in training and development programs to stay updated on changes in patent laws and examination procedures.

Among my most rewarding memories as a Patent Examiner were the times I worked with inventors representing themselves.  Engaging directly with these pro se inventors provided a unique perspective on their passion and dedication, making the examination process more personal and meaningful.

Medical Transcription Outsourcing Services

Soon after graduating from Penn, I was offered an incredible opportunity from a Wharton alum to go overseas and lead an initiative aimed at providing opportunities for jobless physicians in Pakistan. 

As the Co-founder and Managing Director of a pioneering medical transcription company in Pakistan, I turned a vision into reality by spearheading the outsourcing of medical transcription services from the United States to Pakistan. Seeing the untapped potential and heartbreaking reality of jobless Pakistani physicians, I was driven by a desire to make a positive impact and provide meaningful opportunities. 
   
With a deep passion for excellence and innovation, I assembled and led a team of talented Pakistani physicians, transforming them into skilled medical transcription experts. My journey began with the strategic recruitment of skilled professionals, followed by the development of comprehensive training programs designed to meet and exceed international standards. I empowered my team with the knowledge and tools necessary to achieve unparalleled accuracy, confidentiality, and efficiency in their work.

Beyond managing the day-to-day operations, I dedicated myself to meticulous quality control, ensuring every transcription met the highest standards of precision and reliability. This commitment to excellence helped us build a reputation for delivering top-tier medical transcription services, fostering trust and satisfaction among our clients.

My leadership was not just about managing processes but about inspiring a team to reach new heights and bridging the gap between healthcare providers in the United States and those in Pakistan. During Mental Health Awareness Month, I’ll be resharing posts from a brave mother, Jill Wijangco, who lost her son, Max, to suicide. Every May, she honors lives lost to suicide from around the world—one each day—to remind us that behind every statistic is a human being who was enough.

As we read and remember these names, may we not only reflect on how they lived, but commit ourselves to holding space for the conversations we often shy away from. Mental health deserves our attention. Our empathy. Our voices.

To those grieving: your love echoes through time.
To those struggling: your story is not over.
And to those we've lost: we carry your light.

Max's Mom/Suicide Awareness Advocate/ Suicide Loss Survivor/Co-Founder of Max's Mission

Today is the start of Mental Health Awareness Month. 

I will be featuring a life lost to suicide each day of the month, from all over the world. 

Thank you to everyone that continues to support this mission and for shining a light on your loved ones who you still love more than anything. 

"Enough" is the one word used to describe Monica, featured here, by her best friend Jennifer.  

There are many definitions of enough, but when used in this space of talking about someone lost to suicide, "enough" is - pushing back against shame, honoring their humanity, and recognizing that their suicide was not because they were weak or lacking. 

To me, "enough" could perfectly sum up all of these beautiful lives lost to suicide. 

They were all enough, but we still lost them.

Which gets to the root of how suicide is so very complex. 

We lose the very brightest lights to suicide every single day. 

We can keep their light shining by continuing to talk about them, their life, and how they still matter to us and are so very loved. 

And in doing that we are helping to chip away at the stigma attached to how they died and turn the focus onto how they lived. 

Which is really what matters the most.
