Who we are

Built Environment Skills in Schools aims to bring employers, educators and young people together to tackle the skills shortage in construction, and ultimately grow a sector that builds the best it possibly can, for individuals, communities, the environment and all our futures.
We provide activities, training, tools, workshops, templates, information and consultancy to:
help young people understand the product of the built environment, and why their opinions matter; 
help educators with labour market information for careers in a rapidly changing sector; and 
help all construction employers to engage better and more often with schools and colleges. 

Schools engagement is a clear structured process with rules for success. Do it right and reap the rewards. Do it wrong, and be frustrated by a lack of opportunity. Or worse, become a disappointment to schools.

Why we do it

The built environment matters. It has consequences. The things we build affect people and environments for decades. Solving the skills shortage in construction and improving the built environment for all our futures are two sides of the same coin. And Built Environment Skills in Schools exists to get employers into schools, help to educate teachers, and ultimately inspire a new generation of bright minds to become the future of the construction sector. 

Even if they never join the sector, they become smarter clients and better consumers of the built environment – holding it to a higher standard.
