Working closely with the founding partner, this role was a hybrid of Executive Assistant, Practice Manager and client system support. When new clients implemented the Technology system, I was the first point of contact for them, for set up, training needs and ongoing support.  I also supported them through reporting cycles, helping to produce board reports with system data.

Pepper Events Limited

This was volunteer work for a local charity each summer for 2 weeks. 

I coordinated a team of 20 volunteers, 5 suppliers and various internal people to run a bar for the 7 night run of the summer show.

This role was often defined as being "the glue" that held the team together.  Originally, the role was to support the two founder / owners who were incredibly busy, building a boutique consultancy. During the course of my employment, I was also able to support consultants on projects, both from the office and onsite. This hands-on project co-ordination enabled me to travel and do face-to-face client work as well as a more traditional EA role.  

7days was a consultancy that began in Beaconsfield Bucks before moving into London as part of an expansion. It was bought out by the Savile Group in 2011.

This feels like important news! 

No one enjoyed the Twitter feud between Aldi and M&S as much as I did on the subject of caterpillar cakes. As random social media black holes go, for me this was up there with Goat Gate on our local Facebook page.

Steve the Goat and his unwanted er-donations to the gardens of the newly built estate as he escaped Houdini-style from his field on almost a daily basis kept our village rapt for weeks. I did have some personal skin in the game on that one though as Steve was loose one day and I volunteered to get him back into his field. Only to discover he'd taken himself back. 
I've never spent a lunch hour standing in a field shouting "Steve! Steve!" Steve is that you?" at a bunch of goats before. Despite what I was told, he didn't respond to his name. They all looked at me mystified then went back to doing whatever it is goats do. I'll stick with collies.

Anyway, spoiler alert, Charlie the Caterpillar from the CoOp is the winner. In taste, if not in notoriety.

I stumbled across a little time management hack the other day. I haven't tried it but if you'd like to be my guinea pig, it was created for those who are serial procrastinators! Is that you? Please try it for me! 

I've long believed that most procrastinators are perfectionists. It's less scary to not have started something than it is to have done a mediocre job on it. But goodness knows, sometimes stuff just needs doing, and getting going can be really challenging. 

This technique is called "unscheduling" and it's about putting fun things in your diary / to do list in blocks. And avoiding the very terror-inducing words "revise for finals" or "submit first draft of article". If you fill your days with the fun stuff, the meetings you have to do, sleep etc then work will go into the gaps. You want to see a week that looks fun, not a week that looks like a grind because it is too grim to see a week full of work and hard things which makes us want to reverse and spend an hour scrolling on Instagram.
