Head of Group HR

Mayborn Group Limited

As Senior HR Advisor for Sangenic International, I was employed by the Mayborn Baby & Child Group, overseeing the Sangenic HR function (strategic & operational) in line with overall Group HR strategy.

Based at the Sangenic Manufacturing facility in Nottinghamshire, I operated in a stand-alone capacity, working as part of the Sangenic Management Team, at the same time maintaining close working relationships with the Mayborn Group HR & Senior Management Teams.

During my employment I was responsible for establishing the HR function at the Sangenic site (headcount circa 80) and held accountability for all aspects of Sangenic HR, including full range of operational / transactional HR responsibilities; furthermore strategic projects including those related to business comms, restructure and change programmes, and skill base evaluation and programme implementation etc...
  
In addition to Sangenic site responsibilities, I was actively involved in various Group initiatives including group policy formulation & implementation, employee engagement programme; leading on various Group projects including, research & development of Australian Work Policies; Morocco factory set-up employment law research, design & documentation of employment handbook etc.

A varied role within a busy manufacturing / engineering environment and lots of opportunity to contribute and add value to a changing Business / HR agenda; good mix of operational and strategic accountabilities and great first exposure to international HR.

Senior HR Advisor

Mansfield District Council

Employed by Mansfield District Council (MDC) on a contract basis, the objective of the contract was to complete an audit of attendance management provisions within MDC and from audit findings, design, develop and implement a tailored attendance management improvement programme to support authorities target to reduce absence and embed an attendance culture.

The contract required me to embrace the full spectrum of attendance management including (but not necessarily limited to!) attendance / absence trends and statistics; policy and procedural provisions; management capabilities / accountabilities, training & development; employee understanding, awareness & engagement; authority channels of communication and promotion to the workforce; systems of reporting / recording and feedback; health & wellbeing initiatives and the Authority's occupational health contract & SLAs.

Working autonomously with close relationships with the HR Manager, established HR Team, and Heads of Service, in an local authority with a high absence rate; the role was demanding, requiring quick wins at the same time enabling a positive sustained change in attendance management understanding & awareness by all.

During the contract I completed a full attendance management audit, surveyed employer / employee opinion, delivered a full management training & development programme, oversaw the OH tender process which lead to a change in provider and on an on-going basis provided professional advice, support and guidance on attendance management & wellbeing initiatives, including complex case management and IHRs. During this time the Authority's absence rate was reduced by 1 day per FTE per annum and was continuing to reduce at the time when I completed the contract.

Interim HR (attendance management project role)

Employed by the P&H Group, as HR Manager for the P&H Snacksdirect and P&H Sweetdirect Businesses (total headcount circa 500); my role was that of a generalist HR professional, leading a team of 4 HR personnel based in Sheffield and supporting a network of 50 sales operational sites nationwide. 

As a generalist HR Manager my work was varied providing extensive opportunity for management of a broad range of HR operational / transactional activities (both in terms of Company specific but often in the wider-sense Group-orientated), with development in to strategic HR over the course of my employment.

HR Operational / Transactional activities were broad ranging, including the implementation / dissemination of Group policies & procedures, people planning, recruitment & selection, conduct / capability management, performance management (inc. probation, interim monitoring, performance appraisal and talent management), attendance / absence management, discipline & grievance, general / complex case management, management advice & support, JCC, employee awareness programmes and facilitation of management training & development, Company payroll and first-line H&S etc.

Strategic involvement in business initiatives related to culture, organisational structure, change / growth management and business efficiencies, with key achievements including managing all aspects of HR related to a 50% headcount growth project in 2006 (+100) and new company set-up in 2008/9.

Working at the time for Norwich Union and operating in a generalist HR role, the principal objective of this role was to provide an HR consultancy service to business managers. Remit included performance, conduct/capability and attendance/absence management; business sector recruitment; and redundancy redeployment & retraining during NU / CGU merger.
