When it comes to photography, I'm drawn to authenticity and love for storytelling.
For nearly 15 years my camera and the way I capture the world has been a passport to so many incredible opportunities, whether I work with big commercial clients or on my private projects. 

I feel grateful that over the years I have had my work showcased in numerous exhibitions and publications, and to have received recognition for my creative efforts.

I believe that it's not only about capturing the right moment, but smooth production skills, quick problem solving and most importantly great team work.

Boosting Children’s Confidence One Portrait At A Time.

I still remember one of the first moments when I witnessed a child I was photographing seemingly grow in size and spirit right before my eyes. 

It happened during an editorial shoot for Junior magazine, where I was capturing her for the cover. 

As I was taking her photographs, I saw how her personality just lit up the room. 

Later, when I organized an exhibition featuring the editorial images, seeing her portrait printed on a large scale left a lasting impression on all of us.

Over my career spanning 15+ years, during which I have photographed children for personal portrait stories and professional fashion projects, I have consistently witnessed the transformative power of photography on young individuals. 

Every child is unique, and I feel with photography I have the ability to celebrate and showcase their individuality. In a safe and non-judgmental space, I allow them to be seen and accepted for who they truly are. 

It has become evident to me that photography is much more than the creation of beautiful images—it has the potential to significantly impact a child's self-esteem and confidence.

Also, I see that displaying or sharing photographs with children can have a profound effect, injecting them with a sense of pride and accomplishment. 

Whether it's through exhibitions, online galleries, or simply sharing images with loved ones, it makes them feel acknowledged and appreciated. 

I see that with portrait photography it's possible to positively shape a child's self-esteem and confidence. 

When they see themselves through the lens of a photographer or on a platform where their portraits are displayed and celebrated, it can foster their sense of worth, pride, and belief in their capabilities.

Playing With Cut-And-Paste Technique.

I'm known for my photography work, specifically capturing moments that resonate with emotions and memories. 

However, I was allowed to experiment with a new technique in my creative field. 

Diana Mikita & Esko Rips asked me to create a portrait using a collage or cut-and-paste technique, which was an exciting proposition as it was an entirely new venture for me.

Creating a piece that embodied the family's spirit, their stories, and their lives, while adhering to their stylistic preferences, was of utmost importance to me. 

I chose to photograph the family in a studio setting, as it gave me the most control over the lighting and helped in setting the desired mood for the outcome.

The fun began when I moved the project into Photoshop, where I cut out the characters and added some elements I found online that reflected the family's story and added a quirkiness to the image. 

Balancing aesthetics and maintaining visual coherence proved challenging, but it was all part of a process of trial and error.

The result pleasantly surprised me. 

It effectively narrated the family's story in a novel and abstract form. 

The heartwarming positive feedback I received from the family was the most rewarding part of this journey.

Beyond learning a new technique, this project promoted my growth as an artist. 

It nudged me out of my comfort zone and demonstrated how creativity can be unleashed when boundaries between different art forms are blurred. 

On a personal level, it reinforced the importance of trusting the process, and I am excited to see where this newfound knowledge and skill will lead me next.

The Art of Styling: A Creative Partnership with Alli-Liis Vandel.

Today's post is all about a wonderful friend and an inspiring stylist.

As they say, collaboration is the key to creativity, and we have certainly pushed each other to create better.

Alli has got this great instinct for blending unexpected colours and materials that I'm constantly impressed by. 

And over time, I've learned to just trust that the results will always be stunning.

On top of that, she is just a lovely person to be around with. 


One of our first collaborations was for a local family magazine Pere ja Kodu portraying beautiful Hanna-Liina Võsa, an Estonian musical singer and actress.

Stories that will transform your life.

A decade ago, during my time in New York, I stumbled upon The Moth, a live storytelling event where every story told is based on true events.

To me, it felt like sampling every flavor of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans from Harry Potter. 

The experience was unpredictable; each story could make you laugh, cry, cringe, or even contemplate your own life. 

Yet, one thing was certain - it left a lasting emotional impact. 

Since then, The Moth has expanded and is now available as a podcast.

Why All Benefit From A Mentor & Should Be One.

A little while back, I carried out a series of photography workshops, and it felt great. 

I realized how much joy I get from sharing my knowledge and expertise and it was a strangely wonderful feeling to see how much taller and more confident my colleagues seemed afterwards. 

And at that moment I became aware that it’s OK to define myself in more than one way. 

I really love my work and all the collaborations I have with different creatives, but I believe there are more ways to grow as a photographer (or any kind of artist really..) than creating images and being part of creative projects.

And so, my mentorship program was born.

I must admit, during my early career I didn’t thoroughly understand what mentorship was or how it worked. 

At the time, I was fortunate enough to stumble upon mentor relationships just along the way - from the tutors who guided me through university, to the colleagues I studied alongside or I met during different workshops.

It wasn't until much later that I truly appreciated the value of these organic connections, and the impact they had on me.

So, I can’t encourage you enough to reach out to those who inspire you - whether they're colleagues, artists, tutors, or anyone else who has valuable insights to offer. 

People who are passionate about their work are often eager to share their knowledge and opinions, so ask them questions and allow them to give you guidance. 

It does not mean you have to agree with them or adopt their ideas, but it will really help you to shape and refine your own creative concepts. 

You never know who might be able to offer the advice that takes your creativity to the next level.

I hope I've instilled some confidence in the idea of having a mentor, but I’d also love to share some takeaways why being a mentor can be so rewarding. I had no idea...

1. Stay on top of skills.

While I've always been curious and eager to learn new things, as a mentor I suddenly felt the responsibility to stay on top of my game more than ever. 

It’s kind of exciting how it keeps me sharp and on my toes.

2. Embrace connections.

I've not only had the opportunity to guide and support photographers but also some awesome and diverse creatives, from art directors to brands. 

Turns out it’s a great way to make new friends.

3. Gain confidence.

I feel a lot more confident in my photography skills. 

Going over all of the knowledge and techniques I've learned over the years, I see how much there is in me. 

It's been a real confidence booster.

4. Rewarding to see progress.

And it just warms my heart when I see my peers apply what they've learned, and to know that I had a part in their success. 


It’s like a two-way street. 

While I'm teaching, I'm also constantly expanding my own understanding.
