We know that American patients and their families have been paying unconscionable prices for their healthcare (way beyond financially), and most of us also pay for it through our exorbitant insurance premiums and other healthcare costs, right? At the heart of this outrageous situation, I see 3 main problems: 1) Profit-driven fragmented healthcare system -> 2) Most doctors cannot spend enough time with their patients -> 3) Most patients are not given proper attention, information, and answers that make sense to them. That’s where independent (private) patient advocates come in! We can address these 3 serious problems, starting from 3) – helping the patient get the right information, answers, and attention, through customized education, preparation, and facilitation based on the patient’s unique needs and capacity. 2) This allows doctors to spend their limited time on high-value activities and discussions. 1) Independent patient advocates can follow the patient across the care continuum and ensure that all the pertinent information passed on, the plans of care properly carried out, the best possible outcome achieved, and no error or wasteful activity occurs along the way (including erroneous billing)! I'm a nurse with an Informatics and Communication background who’s found a calling in alleviating various kinds of pain and fear the patients feel, making the clinicians’ jobs a little easier, and contributing toward a safer and less wasteful, and expensive healthcare system. But frankly, the work can be so challenging and requires a wide range of skills and expertise… I’d love to connect and collaborate with like-minded physicians, mental health professionals, and other healthcare, and complementary professionals.
