Harvard University

- Create, modify, and disable endowment and gift funds within Harvard's General Ledger.
- Maintain database for tracking gift and endowment fund terms and fund comments.
- Responsible for the dissemination of gift and endowment fund information to FAS tubs, departments, and centers.
- Serves as liaison to Alumni and Donor Services and the FAS Development Office.
- Work closely with the University's Controller's Office to ensure that annual standing orders, in accordance with fund terms, are properly posted.
- Work with Controller's Office and ADS on FASB code and gift transfer issues.
- Helps prepare administrative assessment charges posted against all restricted funds within FAS and affiliate schools.
- Reconciles the monthly University Gift Status Report to the general ledger and researches differences.
- Coordinates/Processes FAS pooled funds, annual income transfers, and assessments.
- Reviews and corrects balance forward and interest issues at the beginning of each fiscal year.
- Assists with spending from centrally controlled funds.
- Prepare ad hoc analysis on funds.
- Reviews and works with departments quarterly to clear deficits.

Endowment and Gift Administrator

Finance and Accounting:

- Created and implemented reconciliation process with Harvard Management Company.
- Reconciled Bank of America, Credit Card Merchant Services, general ledger, cash and Advance gift processing systems.
- Created and implemented credit card reconciliation process.
- Entered general ledger financial transfers.

- Prepared and calculated foreign exchange rates for gift entry.

- Prepared the University Gift Status Report, Ivy Plus, and Voluntary Support of Education Survey.
- Created, prepared, and reported on gift processing volume analytics.
- Created ad hoc Hyperion Interactive Report tables within the office.
- Tested and recommended changes to Advance gift processing and reporting.


Auditing:

- Audited outright gifts and pledges.
- Assisted with RMAS and PWC interim and year-end audit schedules.
- Audited credit card gifts for accuracy.
- Audited pledge payments across multiple allocations and funds.
- Audited binding pledges for compliance.


Administration and Customer Service:

- Worked closely and provided customer service to various departments, including Cash Management, Harvard Management Company, Office of Sponsored Research, and all school and tub fundraising departments.
- Implemented process to expedite gift deposits more efficiently.
- Assisted transition to Advance.
- Trained employees on financial processes, reporting, and reconciliation.
- Communicated processes and procedures, in verbal and written form to outside departments and stakeholders.
- Wrote reconciliation procedures.
- Wrote gift refund memos.
- Provided customer service to donors and alumni.
- Protected highly sensitive donor information.

I've had a variety of roles on the financial side of gifts to higher education over the past 25 years at Harvard University.  Primarily, I've been responsible for a wide range of activities focusing on reconciliations, reporting, auditing, and administration in a high volume environment with multiple competing priorities.  I possess strong business, logical, and financial analytic skills.  In my spare time, I enjoy video gaming and personal finance.  As it stands, I'm grateful and humbled to have my current job and career.  So while I am not currently actively looking for jobs, I will consider them, but only if they are fully remote.
