I did something really vulnerable yesterday, and it left me feeling exposed and tender. 

Afterwards, my first instinct was to buckle down and get straight back to work…as if I had to make up for being vulnerable with a show of strength. 

But you know what? 

My vulnerability WAS the show of strength. 

So instead of pushing, flexing, and charging onwards I took myself for a walk to the beach.

Up until now I’ve kept the most authentic parts of myself separate from you. 

I’ve been scared of being misunderstood. 

I’ve shared things from my inner world, but what I really want to show you is me, unfiltered. 

Me in the middle of it, not on the other side of it. 

This desire has pushed me to the edge. 

It’s forcing me to witness all the boundaries I’ve put in place and to claim my right to self-expression. 

It’s forcing me to tear down the invisible wall I erected between how I’m feeling and how people see me. 

It’s forcing me to take up space and stop worrying about whether or not people “get me”.

And even though posting this feels raw, exposing, and like absolutely the wrong thing to do…

I have to believe that everything that’s happening inside and around me is in service of my blooming and somehow all connected, even though I can’t see all the dots yet. 

Becoming the most authentic and expressed version of myself doesn't just mean declaring it and then it’s done. 

It involves facing all the parts of myself that don't believe I’m good enough to take up space. 

It requires me to get on my own side, dial up the volume on the voice of my soul, and invoke the courage to surrender.

So here I am. Unbound, undone, and coming back together in a whole new way right here on live television. 

If you thought I was raw, vulnerable, and counter-cultural before…you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. 

Because it’s a Big Life, baby. And I’m here for ALL of it.

I’ve had a hard core case of imposter syndrome for the last few weeks. 

I’ve been seized by fear and the overwhelming urge to turn back, 

Even though there’s nowhere to turn back to. 

Instead of feeling invigorated by the thrill of reinventing myself, I’ve felt panicked, paralyzed, and lost. 

I’ve floundered in frustration, doubt, and mistrust.

I’ve indulged in worse-case scenarios and prepared for emergency procedures. 

I’ve wanted to give up, lie down, and just let it all burn.

Last week, at the crucible of my suffering I had a thought:

If the worst was about to happen and I just rolled over and watched, what would that say about my life? 

I’ve spent decades building a relationship with myself based on trust & commitment. I refuse to allow fear’s limited perspective on the current circumstances to distract me from pursuing what I know I’m destined for. 

I’m not going out like that. 

In the last few days, I’ve initiated a hard tactical & energetic reset. 

I’m rebelliously refusing to let fear recruit me. 

Every impostor-like, fearful, scary, resistant, risk-avoiding thought I have, I rally against. 

It’s a combination of remembering, reminding, and declaring who I really am, what I’m going for, and why that matters, while at the same time, taking specific, strategic steps to invoke a new reality. 

Imposter syndrome and fear are part of living a Big Life - whether you’re an entrepreneur, executive, artist, parent, or any mix of the above.

When we stop resisting them without giving into them;

When we decide not to deny the presence of fear and imposter syndrome, but instead, respond differently and with authority, 

Fear converts into courage and clarity. 

Rise up and meet your fear. 

Not with anger and false confidence, but with the kind of calm determination and discipline that can only come from the root of your power and truth of your soul.

When you stop telling the Universe about how big your fears are, and start telling your fears about how powerful your Universe is, everything changes.

I’m making it up as I go. 

There are no rules to follow when you take responsibility for creating your destiny. 

It’s a journey of self-discovery, following your instinct, finding your voice, and uncovering your own unique magic.

There are no 12 Laws to Doing It Right, and there’s no one in charge. 

Trust me. 

I’ve seen behind the curtain and there’s no Wizard of Oz. 

The enormity of this can be overwhelming…and liberating. 

And that right there is where all the good stuff is. 

Life is hard and random and happening for us and around us all the time, 

So we may as well take up some space while all that’s going on.  

Take a risk ~ try on a new look. You don’t have to buy it. 

Trust your sense of direction and reach for your edges. Where does this thing end? 

Trust the creative process of your success and give yourself permission to chase your destiny. What’s the best that can happen?

Fear is just information with a very intense biological response. 

Its job is to mitigate risk. 

Which means any time your brain thinks you’re taking a risk, fear is going to show up and check in with you.

It needs to get your full attention quickly, so it (literally) body checks you. 

But fear isn’t malicious.

It doesn’t show up to make you doubt yourself; it shows up to make sure you’re consciously examining all potential options and consequences so you can proceed with surety. 

Fear doesn’t want you to stop…it wants you to pause and engage with it. 

But we’re not conditioned to create enough space to examine our fear and assess how we want to respond. 

The minute we acknowledge and tune into our fear, it begins to transmute into something more useful.

Q: Are leaders made or born?

Let me settle this argument once and for all…



Leadership is your birthright as a sovereign being. 

It doesn’t require anyone else, it isn’t external to you, and no one can bestow leadership upon you. 

The universe gives you sovereignty, but many people consciously or unconsciously give that right away without even realizing it.

The system is set up for control, not freedom.  

Authoritarian family structures who view children as ‘property’; 

Restrictive education systems where you’re taught to be obedient to the fake authority of teachers, principals, and others who likely don’t have their own sovereignty intact; 

Workplaces that impose hierarchies & org charts where “bosses” use the false authority they were given over you. 

Governments that operate like cults. 

These control-oriented structures strip you of your natural leadership and can mold you into a subdued, warped, broken version of your true sovereign self. 
It takes a lot of work to reclaim your power and deprogram yourself from the idea that leadership is external and requires someone else to bestow it on you. 

That’s how leaders are made. 

The moment you begin to take responsibility for yourself and the world around you, you activate your sovereign leadership and your courage and clarity compound on each other.

I had to pull the boss card on myself today. 

As powerful and passionate as I am, I can’t “will” creativity. 

I have to empty myself and let it fill me. 

That feels counter intuitive most of the time, because there’s so much to do and most of it can only be done by me. 

But if I’m energized, the quality of what I create suffers, and so do I. 

And what’s the point of that?

Dear Anonymous,

Congratulations on taking a big, bold step in the direction of your wildest dreams! 

Isn’t it so strange that the same mind you used to consider options, make plans, and thoroughly think things through will turn on you so quickly?

You didn’t wake up one day and frivolously decide to do this; you made this decision with full conscious awareness. 

The mind survives on knowing, and hates uncertainty. It’ll trick you into believing that you have to have it all figured out ahead of time and that there’s zero room for errors. 

Don’t fall for it. 

You’re not supposed to have it all perfectly planned out – and even if you do, that doesn’t guarantee an outcome. 

Your head and your heart aligned and life gave you exactly enough courage to step out of your comfort zone and start. Any more foresight, and you’d be overwhelmed. 

That’s the creative process – it’s alive, dynamic, vulnerable, invigorating, scary, beautiful, and so much more. 

It’s what you’ve signed up for. 

Some of the hardest & most painful self-mastery work is training yourself to not mistake the illusion of fear for true belief. 

You’re stepping into the unknown ~ where life is designed to bloom. The thinking mind will hate it, but your soul will find strength in purpose, and you’ll become more powerful as you go. 

I should also warn you that what you have envisioned in your head will turn into something different as you breathe life into it – which means your plan won’t always go according to plan. 

You won’t fail but you will have failures along the way, and each one will bring with it opportunities to begin again, this time with more wisdom. 

My advice is to redefine your relationship with uncertainty. 

Learn to love the unknown. Not because it’s unavoidable, but because that’s where potential lives. 

It’s where you create your destiny. 

Equip yourself not for the worst that could happen, but with determination to take all things into consideration with a quiet mind and a courageous, open heart. 

Trust that for every brave step you take into the unknown, the Universe takes 10,000 steps towards you. Enjoy the co-creative dance!

I facilitated a leadership development session recently, and one of the participants said:



“People keep telling me I’m emotionally reactive, but they have no idea how vulnerable it is to show how I’m actually feeling.”

This opened up a rich conversation about the nuances of vulnerability, authenticity, and self-mastery. 

Here’s how I define and distinguish emotional reactivity vs emotional vulnerability:

Emotional reactivity is a display of emotion - which isn’t bad or wrong, but it’s not necessarily vulnerability (even though we may feel vulnerable and exposed in the moment). 

Emotional vulnerability is taking the risk to put words to experiences and emotions that are hard to talk about - like shame, sadness, and insecurity. 

Becoming more vulnerable, authentic, and assertive in your leadership (aka relationships) means having the courage to face feelings of rejection instead of devoting energy towards trying to prevent feelings of rejection by controlling the outcome. 

The “work” of vulnerability is to learn to internally organize ourselves so that we can self-manage and actively work with and heal the part of ourselves that fears rejection.
