I am thankful for the opportunity where I have had the change to do two business cycles through from 0 to 100 with a profitable exits by the age 25. For now, new seeds are planted to build stronger and more fruitful companies using the knowledge that I have gained from the previous journeys. 

I am in a learning stage of my life where I want to be experience lot of different situation (lows and highs).I am passionate about acquisition (sales/marketing) and willing to learn always new skills to help me and my ventures to be successful.

My US road trip concluded at ICRS in Las Vegas - it was banger! 🤡 

In Florida, I had insightful meetings about how operations are managed in the states and the main challenges with self-service operations.

A significant concern that emerged is preventing car theft, a growing issue exacerbated by the current economic situation.

I was surprised by the high inflation rates and rising costs in the US.

As inflation escalates, costs are rising, and companies are exploring alternative options to manage expenses.

Self-service plays a crucial role here as it helps reduce operational costs. By scaling your business digitally, you no longer need more rental agents to serve customers, more flexible working hours etc.

Instead, you can utilize a digital rental app that handles everything from digital access and client verification to insurance checks, upsells, and contract signings.

However, there's also a challenge with vehicle thefts, as individuals find ways to steal vehicles.

At Movitronic, we collaborate with our customers to develop tailored flows using Movitronic KeyBox.One hardware and conduct condition checks (user validation) to prevent theft, especially in self-service settings.

Phillip Spink offered valuable insights during a panel discussion, suggesting that rental agents should be cautious when a first-time client requests a specific model, as there's a higher risk of theft intent.

Another point he raised concerns the risk associated with 1-day rentals or bookings made an hour before pickup, which tend to attract problematic renters.

From a revenue perspective, focusing on single-day rentals isn't advisable as the operational costs outweigh the benefits.

I am also grateful to have been invited to DriveSolutions go-karting event, which was a lot of fun. Not to mentioned dinners with Hulda Dís Snorradóttir, Einar Hallsson, great discussions.

Thank you for all the meetings I had, it was very insightful.

I look forward to our next events and continuing to innovate in an industry that truly needs it.

How does the mindset differ between a bootstrapped founder and a VC-backed founder?

If you're going to an expo to present your company, you have the choice of renting a 1 high stand-up table for two days for €660 right on the spot.

At first, it seems super convenient, right? No need to source your own expo furniture, and after the expo, you can just leave it there.

However, if you are bootstrapping and investing your own cash, every dollar spent needs to produce value. 

If you can save money that could instead be invested in marketing to generate more leads, then there's no question about what you should do.

It took me 30 minutes to find a high stand-up table for €80. I saved a reasonable amount of money that allowed me to run a 1-2 week paid ads campaign.

To build a company that is lean and can survive through hard times, you must manage your cash well. 

Cash is king, and it's easy to spend it. We see how companies now struggle to raise new rounds because they've spent a lot of money hiring too many people too quickly, but then the product they've built doesn't perfectly fit the market.

You need time to develop a product that meets customer needs. Money can buy you time, and when you have enough time, you can solve your customer problems, do more iterations with the product to get it right. 

This applies for lean operations where teams are compact so they can move fast with the iterations.

Money doesn’t buy success, as we can see from recent failures where large VC-backed startups have shut their doors.

That's just my personal view and what I have experienced.

Since high school, I've been involved in the car business for over a decade.

We've built several brands along the way; some were successful, and some weren't.

The more you try, the higher your chances of success, so never settle 😜

In 2021, we launched Parrotz, and branding has been a crucial part of our strategy. Building a brand is a long-term effort and doesn't happen overnight.

As seen with examples like Apple, LVMH, and Ferrari, a strong brand can produce an extra margin. People are keen to make purchasing decisions because the combination of brand and product creates an attractive offering.

We've experienced some ups and downs, but now we have an amazing team that is poised for growth.

Running a used car dealership is much like managing a sales agency—70% of the success hinges on how well the sales team can close deals and build relationships with customers, and the rest depends on how well you manage your stock.

Recently, I had a conversation with a major franchise rental company.

We discussed the significant challenges they face during peak seasons.

After a long international flight during the high season, their customers may wait up to 2 hours in a queue just to pick up their rental car.

Doesn't that sound crazy?

Here's another video from Malaga Airport, showing people waiting to pick up their vehicles. Personally, I wouldn't want to wait there; it seems pointless.

Damage detection plays a pivotal role in the car rental industry. 🚘 

When damage is detected, notifications must be sent to both the fleet manager and the drivers involved in the rental contract.

This highlights why car rental companies should invest in their own apps for renters, as it significantly smooths communication between the company and the renter. 

Renters can document incidents by taking photos, adding a layer of transparency that minimizes scams between both parties, especially when damage detection technology is implemented in the vehicles.

Often, damages can be hidden, such as underneath the vehicle, which are not visually apparent. 

This can lead to revenue loss when deposits are released without the ability to reclaim them due to lack of concrete evidence on which customer caused the damage.

To save time and money, rental companies should utilize damage detection technology. 

Interestingly, with Movitronic hardware, we can implement such detection at the client's request.

In 2023, automakers spent a staggering $85 million on lobbying in the US 🤑 

My last visit to the US was 2016. The scale was already immense, but I hadn't viewed it from a car rental perspective. 

Now, working in the industry, I understand why it's the largest market in the world. The entire country is designed for cars, with massive roads and spread-out cities, unlike the compact urban areas of Europe. 

Essentially, you need a car for everything here; without one, you're practically stuck.

The scale of car rental in the US is mind-blowing compared to Europe, where we don’t see such vast parking structures. For a sense of scale, take a look at this video. 

Just in the US alone, there are approximately 4 million rental vehicles on the road. This accounts for around 50% of the total global rental car market.

Miami International Airport features a car rental center, housing only the biggest names like Avis, Sixt, Enterprise, and Hertz. This four-story facility can accommodate 6,500 rental cars and covers an area of 315,000 square meters.

Meanwhile, a visit to Berlin airport's car park during the low season felt like stepping into a ghost town, highlighting the stark contrast. 

Berlin is heavily focused on shared mobility and robust public transport, making a car unnecessary upon arrival.

US automakers have historically played a significant role in shaping the country's infrastructure through massive lobbying efforts.

This strategic influence is evident in the extensive road networks and urban planning that accommodate and even encourage car use, embedding automobiles into the fabric of American culture.

The Power of Brand: Ferrari's gross profit margin is similar to that of LVMH and Apple. 

They all represent strong brands designed for exclusivity.

Their gross profit ranges from 40-49%.

Building a brand is a long-term activity and requires consistency.

The results speak for themselves, as both of these companies mentioned earlier are leaders in their respective categories

How many cars do other brands need to sell to make the same profit as Ferrari makes on 1 car? 


Great overview by Felipe Munoz, showing the incredible difference in operating profits between automotive companies. 

In 2023, Ferrari generated 1.61 billion euro in profits, representing 27% of total revenue.

Tesla’s operating profits reduced to 8.05 billion euro in 2023 while revenue increased. Its operating margin dropped to 9.2%.

BYD increased its revenue by 34% to 76.8 billion euro at a 6.3% margin.

Overall, the automotive industry had a strong 2023, with revenue form the 24 included OEMS 24 OEMs increasing by 11% to 2.25 trillion euro.
