Began my surveying career in 1986 at Shumaker and Associates, Inc. Loved what I was doing from day one. Being outside and able to meet new people and able to excel. April of 1988 Karl Shumaker met me in parking lot that morning and was promoting me to Crew Chief with my own truck and crew. Two hours later he was killed by drunk driver while surveying. Began working at Herndon Hicks and Associates in May of 1988. Learned and worked my way up to crew chief in a years time. Began a second career with the Tuscaloosa Fire Department in 1991. Firefighter and Paramedic until 2002 but never stopped surveying. While at TFD is was a certified instructor on many topics and taught classes to firemen and the public. Took test for Professional Land Surveyor and passed it the first time I took it in 1998. Have always loved to learn and find new and better ways to do my job.
