I am a data science professional and veteran who is driven by helping people make crucial decisions by gaining insight from data. We are constantly processing information and making decisions, but there is a limit to how much data our brains can handle at a time. Data science helps us expand those limits and gain meaningful insights from impossibly large amounts of data. There is a quote floating around that has been credited to Mark Twain " Data is like garbage. You had better know what you are going to do with it before you collect it." I doubt that it was actually Mark Twain who said this, but the quote itself is a great reminder of why data science professionals are so useful in the business world. We can help make sense of the data, and help you turn it into more than garbage. The one skill that has been the most useful in every position I have ever held is my ability to learn quickly. Within a data science role this would mean that I can build domain knowledge at a rate that out paces most people and allow me to step in to a brand new field and become useful more quickly than expected.
