I caught the startup bug in 2013 while working as a Private Wealth Manager at Wells Fargo Advisors, serving tech entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley. Since then, I've been living the startup life and helping other founders on their journeys.

Before my life in finance and then tech, I was a wide receiver in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, and Chicago Bears.

Despite the IPO market heating up, startups are dying left and right 📉

It's ugly out there. Layoffs dominate headlines weekly, and the data from Carta on startup closures isn't pretty. Nevertheless, many founders, myself included, remain optimistic—it's ingrained in our nature, after all.

The truth is, growth-stage funding is dwindling, and the transition from Seed to Series A is happening less and less. 

Just a few years back, seed-stage companies flaunted monthly burn rates upwards of $250k. We knew that wasn't going to last.

Let's also confront the elephant in the room: the declining work ethic in the tech industry.

Entitlement, poor habits, and unrealistic expectations are par the course not only in big tech but also in startup cultures. It became more about the perks than productivity, though who can blame anyone? Perks are fun.

In the upcoming months, startups will likely ramp up efforts to court venture capitalists as their financial runways dwindle. This phase may be viewed as a natural thinning of the startup herd.

𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐎𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐦: 📈

Resilience is ingrained in the DNA of a good founder. If we truly cared about the numbers, we wouldn't have gotten into this industry in the first place.

Bet on yourself. Bet on your team. Bet on your customers. Bet on your ability to build something people want. It's all within you.

I remain bullish on Silicon Valley and the tech industry as a whole. We're witnessing a return to fundamentals: metrics and capital efficiency.
