I am a broadcast journalist turned nonprofit executive and media trainer, with experience in the foreign policy and academic sectors, at home in newsrooms and embassies, conflict zones and classrooms. I am a storyteller, skilled at distilling complex policy issues for broad audiences and decision makers, bringing to light powerful and authentic accounts of underrepresented and marginalized people that are rooted in history and context. I specialize in executing outcomes for global organizations, telling “the rest of the story” about victims of violent conflict, marginalized groups, and women - all of whom are too often absent from the prevailing narrative. By optimizing relationships, expertise and timing, I work to close the audience gap between decisions made in the halls of power and their consequences for everyday people. I am skilled in providing textured context and nuance to humanize headlines and offer a fuller picture to decision makers and influencers with the power to change history and lives. I started my career covering the crime, government, and education beats for local radio; business news for French television; and the 2000 election, 9/11, and many other stories for CNN. Since leaving daily journalism I have worked with dozens of nonprofits, media training C-suite executives, field workers, policymakers, and academics. I have been a VP of Marketing & Communications for a global education, development, and exchange organization, a communications director for a think tank dedicated to conflict prevention, and a writer for the largest alliance of humanitarian organizations in the world. I have worked on issues ranging from protecting civilians in war zones to Chinese propaganda to water and sanitation in refugee camps. As a broadcast native, video is still my favorite medium. I have produced award-winning documentaries on children in Bosnia, education in Kosovo, and international study abroad programs in Jordan and South Africa. I have partnered with legendary media outlets such as 60 Minutes and Nightline to produce stories on Sudan, Uganda, and DRC. In addition to international affairs and journalism, I am passionate about women’s rights and education.
