Some people know from a singular moment in their childhood what they're meant to do. Some people discover theirs slowly like an archaeologist digging through layers of dirt + history. I'm the latter. As a kid, I enjoyed being a student. But I was happiest in english, history, and science classes. By the time college rolled around, I knew I wanted to be an Archaeologist. I went on my first excavation, fell in love with the practice but knew that I didn't want to get my PhD in Archaeology. I wanted something with more agency over protecting history, art, and cultures. So I majored in Anthropology, the study of people and cultures, which was the perfect decision for me. I remember in one of my 101 classes watching a documentary where they talked about legal careers protecting cultural heritage. I was hooked. After graduating early & working for 2 years after life threw me some lemons, I pursued law school. My interests and skills began to finally cross paths and come together. During law school, I: - volunteered as a legal intern for California Lawyers for the Arts in their mediation programs - researched as a legal intern for the Data Privacy Initiatives team at BBB National Programs - worked as a Student Attorney for Elon's Small Business & Entrepreneurship Clinic - managed the Symposium team as Chief Symposium Editor for Vol. 16 of the Elon Law Review - co-hosted a school-sponsored podcast called, Lawyer, Affirmed, for first-gen law students - and in my spare time, freelanced on copyright and cultural heritage subjects. The above experiences primed my legal research, writing, and editing skills. I look forward to interviewing and communicating with clients. Most especially, I love diving into areas that involve creativity, the arts, culture, and entrepreneurship. I'm currently looking for my first litigation associate position - if you know of anyone hiring or anyone that would be open to an informational interview, please send my way. I look forward to making new connections & throwing my hat into the ring! ____________________________________________________________________________________ I'm KimberMarie, a.k.a. the Sailor's Daughter, which is also the name of my newsletter where I discuss cultivating holistic wellness by understanding resilience more. When I'm not advocating for the arts and culture, I'm writing about how we can weather our storms, reach our destinations, and find our treasures. Interested?
