I don't know about you, but sometimes I let guilt get the best of me.
For falling behind.
Missing that email.
Publishing the Startup Wisconsin newsletter a few days late.
The list goes on.

My time at the Early Stage Symposium by the Wisconsin Technology Council and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation this week was a kind reminder...

That progress is always greater than perfection.
You just gotta keep showing up.

People I never met before would approach our mobile podcast booth and share how helpful the newsletter and Startup Wisconsin was to them. That it was the only reason they could keep tabs on what was going on across the startup ecosystem.

It was a clear reminder that even though the work is not perfect, it is meaningful.

I remember last year around this time when Anna Lardinois asked me and Andrew Verboncouer why do we do it. Why Startup Wisconsin?

And I remember trying to find the words to describe it.
For us it just feels right. 

And to be honest, I am EXTREMELY LUCKY that Andrew let's me work on this stuff through Headway - Digital Product Agency.

While I may be "the face" of Startup Wisconsin, Andrew has been involved in doing startup community efforts for way longer than me. He truly deserves the recognition for all he has done. He quietly helps founders all the time and his impact is not measurable if you ask me.

And most people don't even realize that Headway has allocated a lot of time, energy, and resources for a decade into startup community efforts and now organizes Startup Wisconsin.

And that's kind of by design.
Which many might find confusing.
But we've been doing things like this before Headway existed.
It's just a part of who we are.

Sure we might get a few business opportunities because of the connections we make.

But it's not our WHY.

And we (as people) have a vision for the startup community in Wisconsin.
One that is exciting, helpful, kind, thriving, and generous.

And after a few conversations with Maggie Brickerman, I couldn't be more excited about her new role and the impact we can make together as a community.

I can't wait to share our ideas with her and see what's possible.

And getting to know Shayna Hetzel and Elaine Coughlin gave me even more confidence that the right people are in the right seats to truly help Wisconsin thrive.

A BIG THANK YOU to Angela Schlobohm for being kind enough to offer Startup Wisconsin a mobile podcast booth this week in Madison. 

I guess my lesson for today is that gratitude (through the kindness of others) can truly change that feeling of guilt when you're feeling behind.

And maybe...
Just maybe, it's more about timing. 

Work hard.
Be kind. (to yourself and others)
And keep showing up.
