I run a small design and prototyping shop specializing in scientific apparatus and other experimental or proof of concept devices. I started out as a machinist and asked too many questions so I ended up with a couple of engineering degrees (manufacturing, mechanical and aerospace). I can assist with product development from initial feasibility studies through design and engineering to fabrication and production set-up. I like designing and building things that have never existed before. My broad scientific and technical background helps me understand what the researcher is trying to achieve and allows me to translate their concept into specific guidance for shop staff. I can generate drawings and manufacturing procedures, assist with requests for quotes and follow through on the actual fabrication as needed. For small projects I like to do the fabrication myself in my own shop as this eliminates errors in communication between the designer and the machinist.
