I began my career as a youth worker, which evolved to an adult probation officer, and later a coach. The one thing that’s remained constant is my heart for supporting people through obstacles, whether personal, emotional or business. After 10 years of experience as a coach, mentor, and forum facilitator, I joined Next Step Advisors. My role with Next Step began as a mentorship with David Bentall. My goal was to gain a deep understanding of the field. I wanted to explore if I could help with what they were building and if this would be a timely next chapter. Spoiler alert: both guesses were right. My initial curiosity quickly matured into a role as an Associate Advisor at Next Step Advisors. The interest I have in this role continues to grow with every group I work with. The energy I have for helping family enterprises stems from my natural curiosity about the dynamics at play in relationships. You see, relationships are core to the success of any family business. There’s no doubt about it. The privilege of this role is to empower families to communicate and make decisions in ways that deepen their bonds and build enduring family legacies. It’s about putting decade-building blocks in place for generations to come. In my role, I assist family enterprises in navigating the uncertainty that often accompanies intergenerational transitions. How? I help bridge and bring perspective to communication gaps that sometimes arise between family members. This could include facilitating family meetings, coaching successors, developing career development plans, providing governance education and board recruitment services. It all depends on what the family requires with the situation at hand. Away from work, you’ll find me diving into Harriet Lerner’s latest books or hiking a local trail.
