Professionally, I felt like the tech industry chose me as much as I chose it - nearly being 'born in Tech' following in my parents Ross and Gaynors footsteps. Im a geek at heart + always been intrigued by techs unique ability to connect, engage, impact & transform ALL sectors and this combined with the huge personalities of 1990's and early 2000’s ICT in New Zealand In 2015 Mike catapulted into the spotlight being recognised as a rising star of the Hi-tech arena following his confirmation as emerging ICT leader of the year at the NZ CIO awards in 2015 - only 2 years after founding The Instillery.   He 'grew up' in the early days of Computerland era of NZ tech in the Waikato, his first gig was loading Novell floppy disk sets onto Compaq machines in the 90's as an after-school job. After graduating from AUT University Mike honed his skills and garnered a truly global perspective through co-op years studying in Portsmouth, UK & Boston University, USA. This commitment to lifelong learning has continued through IT multinationals in Australasia with Logical, BM, Cisco and now as Founder of The Instillery, co-founder of Knode - Agtech IoT Platform and Nobility: the socially responsible big data engine. Since exiting the Instillery in 2022, Mike has turned his attention to supporting other kiwi tech founders to realise their own goals, disrupt industry leveraging the power of tech While massively respectful of the matua that blazed the trail of NZ tech before him; Mike is not afraid to publicly challenge the traditional "suit and tie" mafia, fat margins, hidden underbelly of protectionism + lack of diversity encountered in NZ's traditional tech sector. He leads bravely by bringing a fresh new lens and a commitment to tangible business outcomes shared reward - all underpinned by proven modern technologies including the public cloud, machine learning, automation, security intelligence and privacy by design to help solve the business problems of today as well as those on the horizon that we may not yet be aware of... Mike has a focussed mission; Legacy + Loyalty over Currency. All with the goal of creating exciting new opportunities for kiwis while positioning the Waikato (NZ's true heart of Digital)+ Aotearoa's tech sector to lead on the GLOBAL stage
