Over the past few days, I’ve seen posts questioning whether members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are truly “Christian.”

As a disciple of Christ and a member of His restored church, I want to share why the answer is a resounding yes.

I hesitated before posting this, because I’ve also seen many negative and inaccurate statements about my faith. But silence allows misunderstanding to grow. Out of respect for the Savior whose name I bear, I feel it’s important to add my voice.

Joseph Smith once taught:

“The fundamental principles of our religion are the testimony of the apostles and prophets concerning Jesus Christ, that He died, was buried, and rose again the third day, and ascended into heaven; and all other things are only appendages to these.”

At the very heart of our faith is Jesus Christ. His divinity, His atoning sacrifice, and His resurrection. We worship Him as our Savior and Redeemer, the only name under heaven by which salvation comes (Acts 4:12).

We believe that Christ ministered among His people, suffered for our sins, was crucified, and rose again, conquering death through His infinite love.

The Book of Mormon echoes this focus:

“We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ… that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.” (2 Nephi 25:26)

Some assume all Christians must agree on a static set of beliefs. But history shows that Christians have long disagreed on theology and practice, leading to many denominations. Though our doctrine differs from creedal churches, it is consistent with early Christianity. One who sincerely loves, worships, and follows Christ should be free to claim his or her understanding of the doctrine according to the dictates of his or her conscience without being branded as non-Christian.

As Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount:

“By their fruits ye shall know them.” (Matthew 7:20)

For me, and for millions of fellow believers, those fruits are a life centered on the Redeemer. By every measure of worship, devotion, and discipleship, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are and always have been Christian.

At the end of the day, Christianity is not about labels or dividing lines, it is about following Jesus Christ. It is about striving to love as He loved, serve as He served, and trust fully in His grace.

So if you have questions about what I believe, I invite you to look not just at doctrinal debates, but at the lives of millions of disciples of Christ who pray in His name, covenant to follow Him, and seek to live His gospel every day.

That, to me, is the essence of Christianity. And it is the heart of my faith.
