Right now I’m battling some atomic habits. 

I’ve found myself unconsciously grabbing candy and chips throughout the day. 

It’s totally habitual. 
Like it’s not even me!!! 


So my wife has made me a few healthy snacks that are at the forefront of our fridge and easily accessible. 


This so relates to marketing and sales. 

For most new industries, you’ve got to first convince your audience their is a problem (subconscious bad snacking) then make the solution simple and economical (veggies Pre-cut) and lastly you’ve got to replace the bad habit with the good one. 

This one takes time and can be really hard to market. 

How do you do this?
Continually remind your audience of the issue, and always reward your audience for good actions.

I love seeing the events happening! Especially here in utah. I love seeing who’s connecting with who.

You should be proud of going to events.

Starting a business is lonely. 

Even with an amazing network of friends and family, it feels lonely. 

I think it feels lonely because it’s hyper engaging. 

Christmas came and went. 
My birthday came and went. 

But all I really cared about was my business. 

Long term, this would be catastrophic. But I do believe we each have life stages that we’re meant to live. 

For me, my life stage for the next few years, is to build the best business I possibly can. 

And even though I feel lonely, I’m surrounded by amazing people that are helping me lay the foundation. 

I seriously appreciate any referral, any advice and any connection. Similar to raising a child, building a business takes a village. And my village is extremely giving.

For most phone calls, right before I hang up, I say “I love you!”

Then pause and wait. 

It makes things awkward. 
It’s hilarious.

Main engine fail points are:

🖕Big silicon slopes agencies. 
👉Content without substance. 
🖐️Bad advice and lack of guidance. 

It’s a messy job, but I love it. 

Is your marketing engine running rough?

Here’s what I’m thinking:

🔥 MUST be currently operating at some monthly revenue. Or have some credibility in the space. 

🔥 NO pitching allowed. Purely a support group. this ain’t your grandmas’ panjama party. 

🔥 HELP one another with spiritual, mental and emotional pillars of entrepreneurship.

🔥NO agenda or ownership. Similar to LinkedIn Luncheon, run by and for the community. 

🔥IN-person events here and there. Would be beneficial to be near Utah County.  

🔥 DENSE conversions. Nothing superficial. I’m talking road barriers your business is facing. I’m talking emotional support sessions. I’m talking serious conversations about work/life balance. I’m talking vulnerability up the wazoo.  

🔥 NO aspiring entrepreneurs! Again, individuals that have been in the thick of it for years and are trudging through the mud. I want people that have battle scares. 

🔥EXCLUSIVE exclusive exclusive. No clowns. No snake-oil businesses. No bull. This would be individuals already scaling the mountain. NOT people preparing their backpacking list. I want guys & gals that are miles and miles and miles deep into their journey. I want people that have fallen and have gotten back up time and time again. I want peeps that have weathered the storm and that have fought of grizzlies. 


Is that too much to ask?

I haven’t always been the happiest person….

But I’ve found that I owe it to myself, my friends & family to always be pursuing joy. 

Why am I so happy now?
Mostly because I’m pushing myself consistently, in work & life. 

I always own a business with the mission to wake up and care. Care about myself. Care about my employee. Care about my client. 

Lastly, I think their is something to be said about momentum. I’ve pushed really hard to create the life that I have. Do I still fight for it everyday? Yes. But I can also stop and smell the roses without losing speed. 

How are you pursing joy?

Working hard isn’t enough….

When I take over accounts, I see old agencies that had their interns do a lot of work!
tons of campaigns and hundreds of ads. Each slightly different. 

They put in a lot of work. 
But it’s not enough, and usually a bad thing. 

Just like vacuuming my lawn, it’s a lot of work with little performance. 

Why is work a bad thing?
It’s not, unless it’s quantity over quality. 

Here is why it’s usually a bad thing. 
1st) it usually is an indicator that the agency before used interns or outsourced the work. The large amount of work and complication means the account priority was quantity, not quality. 

2nd) this spray and pray method is as good as tracking and statistically significant data. If one ad got 2 purchases and the other got 3, the chance of coincidence is too high to make any meaningful conclusion. You’re shooting a lot of shots at a target but not recording anything and thus not making any adjustments. 

3rd) many agencies that work hard often stop there. They don’t setup the most impactful steps like good tracking, meaningful learning scenarios and quality feedback. Seriously, with AI, the systems can do all the micro learning behaviors. As an ad buyer, your job is to get results and explain why the results are the way they are. If you’re looking through 30-40 campaigns and 100s of ads, how are you then comparing their objective, performance and ultimately change in results. At the end of the day, we’re not being paid to setup campaigns, we’re being paid to get the best results through testing, learning and consultation. 


People!
Most companies want an ad buyer that’s an iPhone. It works, it does the job, and it’s simple enough to figure out basic features without help.

Do Less Better

Was college a waste?
A lifetime ago, I graduated in neuroscience/biochemistry from BYU Provo. 

When I failed to get into a PhD program, I started to worry. 

Years of hard work, dedication and sacrifice. And for what!?

Nothing….

Or so I though. 

But now that I run my digital marketing business, I’m thankful for my bachelors. 

I’m confident in statistics, data analysis, experimentation, A/B testing, technical writing, 

and most importantly…..

I’m confident in my ability to learn independently. 
A crucial skill when running your own business. 

So was college a waste?
No…

I spent a $100 to have random strangers hold me accountable. 

Running my own business is the best decision I’ve ever made. 

But, the long hours and stress makes it hard to live a healthy lifestyle. 

That’s why I’m super excited for Josh Little’s 12 week health challenge. 

It’s hosted on the greatest communication app ever (Volley )

We're crushing it here at WDM! Chloe is catching on super fast. Jaymie is so talented at design. I'm just doing the one thing I'm good at (ad buying). 

It feels a little unreal at how well everything is working. 

Highly recommend securing a strong foundation and then building. 
It makes it much much easier.

AI teaches me everything and never makes mistakes. 

I’m learning so much by asking chatgpt questions. Did you know Mountain Dew is actually 100% natural and simply collected from mountain springs?
