There is something fascinating at the intersection of storytelling, system design & behavioral science. I don't know what to call it, but I hangout there. I think building a business is the most noble thing you can do for yourself and for society. 

I am a shopkeeper - turned - designer - turned - filmmaker - turned - marketer - turned - entrepreneur.

Too many hats, I know. But one thread common across all these hats is my curiosity about human nature and what makes people "take action". Whether they change a habit, buy a product or follow your advice.

From selling over the counter from the age of 6 in our family owned general store in a small village in India to building brands that do a million dollars in revenue, I found a common thread that kept me going: my love for understanding human nature & crafting powerful narratives.

My attempt to write here is to share my curiosity with the world and help others realize the power of narratives.

"Why do I feel so exhausted after creating content?" 

That's a question one of our community members asked me recently. 

The problem is how you are creating content. 

Is it from your memory. Or is it from a deep understanding of your ideas. 

If you're speaking from memory, you're too much in your head and ignore your body. 

But the power in your speech comes from your entire body. And the body expresses itself when you speak from a place of understanding. 

In this video I talk about the process of how Rishis used to create. It's a 4 step process called,

Para 👉 Pashyanati 👉 Madhyama 👉 Vaikhari

Para is a signal of insights that comes to you when you are silent from within.

Pashyanti is when that signal turns into an insight. It's a sudden flash that gives you a deep understanding of a hidden truth. 

Madhyama is when you articulate this truth mentally in words. This is where that insights starts taking shape. 

And Pashyanti happens when your express your insights through speech. 

This kind of expression, gives you energy instead of draining you. 

So next time you create, create from that place of silence and you will feel powerful.

I was reading about the meaning of the word “Kalaa" (कला). Usually, the english translation is understood as “art”. But that’s a very narrow way of looking at it. 

The root meaning of “kala” is carving out something “finite” from the “infinite”.

So whether it is manufacturing, design, content or any kind of creation. You are carving out “finite” from the infinite. 

One of the biggest problem with creating anything is you attach your identity with your creation. And this reduces the quality of your work.

This idea of “kala” helps you detach your identity from what you are creating. Because whatever you create, has always existed in the infinite. What you are doing is simply bringing a part of “infinite”, into the “finite”.

That way, you don’t obsess over anything you create, detach from your work, and move on to do more amazing work.

Why do we drain our creative energy?

“संशयात्मा विनश्यति” : One who is always doubtful is destroyed. - Bhagvat Gita

Doubt and indecision is how we drain our energy without doing anything. 

When you are creating content you have to go through 100s of decisions. From your niche, to your ideas to how to produce it to even distributing it. 

The one thing that will always stop you is your indecision.

Whenever I stayed in doubt. I wasted my time, learned nothing, felt anxious and ultimately, regretted not taking the decision.

It’s better to make the wrong decision than to take none at all.

But when I did make a decision, I gained 3 things, 

1. A lot of energy to take action
2. ⁠ If it was a wrong decision, I learned and changed my decision.
3. If it was the right decision, it doubled down on it

What is the doubt you are fighting with right now?

You won't get your time back. So it's better to make the wrong decision than none at all.
