We tested whether AI can actually read construction drawings. Here's what we did and what we found:

We gave 6 AI models 100 floor plans and asked them to spot basic objects: doors, windows, toilets, desks, sinks. 

The best one (GPT-5 mini) found 58%. Accuracy is unevenly distributed across objects.

Turns out off-the-shelf AI models don't understand technical drawings. Intuitively, this makes sense because there isn't enough publicly available data for models to learn this behaviour.
