Here’s why you should rethink your exec “thought leadership” program: 

Thought leadership has become, especially in enterprise settings, inconsistent, repackaged thinking served up in bite-sized, media-trained soundbites that speak more to product than actual human experience.

This is because thought leadership is seen as business marketing with unclear definitions of success, instead of a valuable tool for personal and professional growth.

Truly impactful thought leadership is about self-reflection. 

And truly impactful leaders cultivate movements that go well beyond the business they’re running.

But 99% of executives don’t dig deep enough to understand their unique POV. They don’t reflect on their own leadership principles (if they have any at all). Many don’t even know who they truly are.

So if thought leadership is "dead," what’s taking it’s place? It’s pretty simple:

It’s just … leadership. It's less about saying something that increases stock prices and market confidence, and more about building trust with colleagues, employees, and customers through resonance.

IMO, trust is, and will be, the only KPI that matters.
