As a Postdoctoral Researcher in robotics, my focus is on advancing field robotics with a special emphasis on urban search and rescue scenarios. I aim to equip single and multi-agent robot teams with enhanced perceptual and navigational abilities to support scalable first response in Mass Casualty Incidents (MCIs) and other urban search and rescue operations.

My research involves developing innovative solutions to enable robots to navigate complex urban environments, efficiently explore disaster-stricken areas, and assist human responders. By integrating state-of-the-art technologies such as sensor fusion, computer vision, and machine learning, I enhance the robots' situational awareness and decision-making capabilities.

I also explore techniques to optimize coordination among multiple robots, including communication protocols, distributed mapping and localization algorithms, and cooperative path planning. This creates a cohesive and adaptable robotic team capable of effective coordination and mission success.

Addressing real-world challenges, I develop robust algorithms to navigate autonomously, adapt to dynamic obstacles, limited communication infrastructure, and uncertain terrain conditions. My goal is to enable robots to exhibit intelligent behavior in complex and dynamic scenarios.

My research contributes to the development of cutting-edge technologies for emergency response. By endowing robot teams with enhanced abilities, I envision a future where human-robot collaboration in disaster scenarios leads to more efficient, safer, and scalable first response efforts, ultimately saving lives.

Investigating the role of touch sensors such as bio-inspired rat whiskers for mobile robot navigation. Touch sensors have not yet been explored in depth for their role in navigation as much as for their role in grasping and manipulation.

As a part of the EU co-funded Human Brain Project initiative, we investigated bio-inspired Simultaneous Localization and Mapping algorithms. The motivation was that while the current boom in Deep Learning is able to solve a lot of end-of-end learning problems, but in the mammalian kingdom for instance, in rats, the brain does not necessarily allow for such heavy computation yet they are able to navigate and handle uncertainties. Thus, the motivation here was to utilize neural networks that are inspired by biology and provide a fresh perspective to solving conventional robotics challenges particularly to SLAM and navigation.

Beyond research, I find great joy in mentoring aspiring early-stage researchers, guiding them through the transition into academia. My commitment to knowledge-sharing extends to writing blogs and creating YouTube content, where I distill my experiences and insights.
