The things you don’t think about in the workplace I’ve realized after losing over 200 lbs

- The inaccessibility of “swag” shirts, jackets, etc. I’m jus now able to wear some of the stuff I gathered over the years.
- Corporate travel. Paying out of pocket to upgrade your seats because you don’t fit in 1, albeit will say Yahoo had an amazing “physical stature” policy that allowed 2 seats or 1 first class seat whichever was cheaper.
- Office chairs. Early in my career my desk chairs would constantly break. 
- I had a leader tell me my size would impact my career opportunities. 

4 years later & it was the best decision I’ve made both personal and professional.

Corporate Melanin Millennial turns 7 this year and looking back, I’ve supported more than 500 clients through career coaching and resume writing. It’s been one of the most meaningful parts of my work.

But I’ve also been honest with myself about the current landscape. Career coaching has shifted. In a world where so many people are juggling layoffs, uncertainty, and rising costs, charging premium rates feels misaligned to me. At times, it felt like the industry was becoming predatory, and that didn’t sit well with my spirit or my brand.

So this past year, I stepped back, invested in my own learning, wrote more, spoke more, and reconnected with why I built Corporate Melanin Millennial in the first place for the purpose to serve, uplift, and educate.

As I look ahead to 2026, the business is evolving. My focus will lean more into speaking, mentoring, and building community impact. That’s the work that feels right. That’s where I can do the most good.
