Reading (listening) through Mike Weinberg’s New Sales. Simplified, for what feels like the 100th time.

I’ve been studying it with several sales teams in Q1.

The interesting thing is that the feedback is almost always the same:

The book makes sense because of its simplicity, and we almost always overcomplicate things in sales.

If most of us are honest, we know the issue usually isn’t knowledge.

But rather, the fact that we aren’t consistent in protecting our time to focus on creating, advancing, and closing deals.

Sales is Simple, but only if we actually do it.

Sales has a way of messing with your confidence.
One slow month can make you question everything..
your skills, your experience, your gut instincts...
...even after years of success.

The dangerous part isn’t the dip -
it’s letting a temporary result rewrite a long-term track record.

Confidence in sales isn’t constant, but built up slowly over time.

The best reps and teams aren’t immune to doubt,
they just don’t let it take the wheel.

With a strong plan, doubt CAN'T take the wheel, it may sit in the back seat for a while, but it'll hop out at the next big win.

It usually isn’t.

I was having coffee with a business leader the other day.
Empty pipeline, and real frustration.

So we looked backward.

Last 30 days? No prospecting.
60 days? No networking.
90 days? Still nothing.

Just waiting on inbound leads to save the quarter.

Here’s the hard truth:
If you’re not prospecting,
not picking up the phone,
not activating your network-

An empty pipeline isn’t a surprise.
It’s the outcome.
Marketing supports sales.
It doesn’t replace it.

If your pipeline feels thin,
look at your activity before you blame the funnel.

Most prospects don’t ghost you.
You ghosted the deal.

The call felt great.
They were engaged.
You left confident.
And then… nothing.

Not because they disappeared -
but because nothing was actually decided.

No next step.
No timeline.
No commitment.

Hope is not a follow-up strategy.

The best follow-up is the one you mutually agree on before the call ends.

Back-to-back meetings, internal calls, “Quick syncs", weekly reviews, you name it!

But my pipeline told a different story...

A full calendar can feel productive, while quietly avoiding the work that actually creates revenue.

If the activity doesn’t:
 • create opportunity
 • advance a deal
 • help you win

It’s probably just noise.

Being busy doesn’t close deals, nor do all the plans you have.
Clear, strategic action does.

Helped develop and implement a comprehensive CRM database.
Capturing over 1500 contacts within this CRM program, separated into 26 categories of information. 
All client information is brought to life through an interactive mapping program.

Revamped all Itipack Pricing Documents to immediately display Price and Profit changes based on factors such as: Mark up, Currency Conversions and Discounts.

Successfully aided in the preparation and execution of the first Itipack Open House, drawing over 300 guest from local businesses and the surrounding community.

Inside Sales

"Next Door is a resource centre, providing support for housing and employment search as well as hosting soup lunches, a women’s coffee hour and special events. Next Door is also home to Rolling Horse Community Cycle."

Along with a team of 10+ members, entered the Dominican Republic to help lay the foundation for a School.

Aided in the laying of the schools foundations.
Socialized with members of the community.
Taught the young children various things, from English words to new games.

You can’t improve what you don’t measure.

This week, we were able to start building out greater visibility in HubSpot with two different teams.

Seeing where and what we spend our time on as Sellers and Managers is part of the puzzle. When we have dashboards that showcase this:

- We can set and measure based on clear expectations.
- We can gain insight into where and how we need to spend time coaching.
- We can start drawing connections between specific activities and specific results.

Especially for newer reps, we find this incredibly helpful.
Build the plan with weekly or daily activities → track the effort → then coach the skill.

The number one lever for any sales manager is still spending time in calls/ride-alongs with your people.

But dashboards that are accurate, up to date, and aligned with your reps' individual sales plans are a great tool for coaching and mentoring your team.
