After gaining my experience in OTR operations I used my skills to help new CDL driver recruits complete the training necessary to upgrade to “First Seat” status. This meant helping students begin to earn an income in the trucking industry. 
This training involved how to deal with shippers and receivers such as checking in with truck load info. Students also were taught mapping skills and how to read a road atlas without using a computerized GPS system. Other important training techniques included proper driving skills, navigation, and how to back a trailer into tight spaces.
In this role 100% of the students that I trained had successfully passed the company requirements and were ultimately upgraded to First Seat status, thereby getting their own truck and securing employment.
This has been one of the most rewarding experiences for me because it involved helping people who came to trucking to improve their lifestyle, take care of themselves and their families.

In this position I had the opportunity to purchase my first business. Under the company LDB Holdings, LLC (DBA AUBURN SHELL) I purchased Auburn Shell. The decision to purchase Auburn Shell originated from believing in the location it served, as well as the belief that its operations could be improved. After the purchase investments were made in store appearance, employee training, and product expansion. During the previous year all monthly sales categories (Inside, Lottery, Fuel Gallons) have steadily increased. Inside sales, the most important category of the three has surpassed industry average levels.
As the owner of this business my responsibilities include scheduling of employees, making fuel and product purchases, analyzing bulk purchase discount opportunities, and reviewing monthly P&L statements.

Responsible for the overall operations of a retail business that eventually generated over $1M annually during my tenure. Took over this store after one year of it opening. Led a team of 20 hourly associates through 4 direct supervisor reports. Concentrated efforts on leading the team to provide excellent service to clients in an effort to win customer loyalty, maximize repeat business, and generate new business through referrals and word of mouth advertising. Revenues have increased between 50%-60% over a 3 year period. Developed valuable and practical expertise in managing operations with tight controllable cost budgets. Our team's efforts have played a strong role in assisting this store to consistently beat sales goal expectations, and was among the top stores leading the way as one of the fastest growing stores in the company. During my tenure I oversaw and managed the growth of this store where more employees and major plant and equipment purchases were needed to keep pace with growing sales.

For some students I had the honor of providing assistance whenever they faced any roadblocks that threatened their degree pursuits in an effort to ensure their goals were reached.  I made daily contact with at-risk students to help them focus on their commitments and communicated with professors on their behalf if and when needed.
