The Francis Crick Institute

Undertaking a summer placement at the Francis Crick Institute, I was able to take induction classes into GLP and safe laboratory ergonomics. Practically, I was able to observe the investigation into how metabolism is changed in tumours induced by specific pro-tumourigenic events in various mammalian tissues. During this experience, I was able to split hepatic cancer cells and become familiar with NIMR, Mass Spectrometry and Slide Scanning. Further, I practised techniques in embryo cryopreservation, and maintenance of cell culture, including cell irradiation.

Promoting alumni events by creating adverts on social networking sites and also distributing leaflets around the university. On open days, my team and I would direct prospective students and visitors around the campus and carry out directed tours.
