The society was originally set up by Shaolin warrior-monk Master Yan Xin (@kungfu.life). Now, it is run by some of his students. We train in traditional Shaolin Kung Fu, an old and extremely broad mix of styles of Chinese martial arts. Going from hand forms, weapons such as staff (gun), straight sword (jian) and sabre (dao) to Chinese kickboxing (sanda). 
This includes: stance work, punching and kicking drills, stretching, 
traditional exercises and occasionally some acrobatics. Beneficial for strength and conditioning, flexibility and all-around general fitness.

Worked on a research project entitled Biomarkers for Brain tumours; alongside two PhD students and Dr Kathreena Kurian, who at the time ran the Brain Tumour research group at Southmead Hospital. The aim of the research was to determine the presence of T(BRA)+ SOX2+ NMP-like cells in tumours exhibiting neuromesodermal differentiation. My task was to identify and catalogue a collection of Central Nervous System tumours (clinical cases) showing mesodermal/mesenchymal character, especially skeletal muscle elements. These would then be screened using microarray technique.
