I built the Tampa Bay Inno newsletter to over 10,000 subscribers, wrote multiple stories a week covering fundings, acquisitions and profile pieces and managed its social media pages daily.

• Monitored and reported on city and county crime including the Raintree Wildfire, homicides and patrol the scanner 
• Localized state and national trends and issues to Sarasota and Charlotte County, including the opioid epidemic, the presidential election and gun registration in Florida after the “Pulse Nightclub” shooting

NBC Owned Television Stations

I worked on the National Web Desk, helping produce web and video content for 11 of the NBC television stations throughout the U.S. I covered a variety of topics, all regarding national and international stories such as what's trending online, ISIS, and enterprise stories.

USA TODAY College

I worked for USA Today College, which is a subset of USA Today. I wrote weekly articles which reached 30,000 views about pressing issues that affect college students, which ranged from political topics to reaction pieces.

The Daily Iowan

I was the healthcare and education reporter for the Daily Iowan Ethics and Policy team, which covers Iowa politics. I reported on the Senate race between Joni Ernst and Bruce Braley, as well as reported on the first congressional district race between Pat Murphy and Rod Blum.

Political Reporter

KCCI-TV (Hearst Corporation)

I helped write, produce and report for the number one television station in Iowa. I would report on stories five days a week, edit my film and write packages and VOSOTs. I also pitched story ideas and wrote scripts for each newscast. In addition, I played an integral role in helping plan our live newscast during the two week Iowa State Fair, which included booking acts, writing scripts and organizing the crew.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette

I reported on business, agriculture, healthcare, energy and education within eastern Iowa. I generated 10-15 story ideas per week and wrote roughly 4-7 stories per week. I also did longer in-depth pieces, such as looking into issues facing aging Iowans and profiling various types of businesses.

News Intern

I managed a team of roughly 10 reporters. I chose the daily budget and edited all the content. I assisted reporters with any needs they had when pursuing stories. I also worked with the design and photography sections of the newspaper to ensure the news articles are presented the best way they can. In addition, I updated our social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter. Through my job as an editor I was also able to write a few breaking-news and more in-depth articles.

Metro Editor

I edited the Metro section of The Daily Iowan one day a week. This includes helping reporters create questions for interviews, finding sources for the story, helping with organization of the article and fact checking. I also wrote briefs for smaller news stories.

Assistant Editor

I cover technology innovation and education for Inside Higher Ed. The day I stop being curious is the day I stop being a journalist.
