Okay can we talk about something that drives me nuts?

Most career coaches will help you plan your exit.

They'll help you update your resume, optimize your LinkedIn, build your network, figure out what's next.

All good stuff.

But here's what they don't help with:
The 6-12 months BEFORE you actually leave.
You know, the part where you still have to show up to the job that's draining you every single day while you're trying to execute this plan?

That's where people completely fall apart.

They burn out before they can even execute the exit strategy.
They make desperate decisions because they just can't take it anymore.
Or they give up entirely because holding it together while planning an exit is just too damn hard.

I watched this happen to a friend of mine a few years ago. She had this whole plan. She was going to transition out of law, she'd been networking, she had interviews lined up.

And then she just... broke.

She was so exhausted from trying to perform at her current job while building her exit that she ended up taking three months off just to recover. 

The plan fell apart.

Okay so I have to tell you about this call I had last year.

This woman gets on the phone with me and she's got it ALL on paper. Senior role at a great company, six figures, people respect her, she gets invited to speak at conferences - like the whole thing.

And within five minutes she's crying.
Not like tearing up.
Full on crying.

And here's the thing - it wasn't because her boss was terrible (he wasn't… usually). It wasn't because the work was meaningless (it wasn't). It wasn't even about money (she was making good money).

She was crying because she had no idea what was actually wrong.
She just knew SOMETHING was.
She'd wake up with this sense of dread. By 3pm she was completely exhausted. Most of the day she was just... annoyed. At everything. And when people asked how she was doing? "Great!" Because what else are you supposed to say?

So here's what I told her - and I'm telling you this because I think a lot of you are in the same boat:
You can't fix a problem if you don't know what the problem actually is.

Everyone wants to jump straight to solutions, right? New job, new career, better boundaries, different morning routine, whatever.

But if you haven't figured out what's ACTUALLY wrong, you're just guessing. You're throwing darts in the dark.

Is it the job?
Like the specific role, the team, the company itself?

Is it the career?
The entire field you picked?

Or is it YOU?
The way you show up, the impossible standards you hold yourself to, the same patterns you keep repeating no matter where you go?

Because those are three completely different problems.
And they need three completely different solutions.

Most people spend literal YEARS going in circles because they never stop long enough to figure out which one it is.

That's where I start with every client.

Not with fixing your resume.
Not with optimizing your LinkedIn.
Not with some personality test.

With figuring out what's actually broken.

Because once you know that?
Everything else gets so much clearer.
