This is the most important number in your business. 

And no, its not profit...

One of my tax clients got into a jam because they fell behind on their mortgage. 
Panicked, they reached out to me because their requests for deferment were denied. 

Why? Because their P&L showed profit, but told the bank they couldn't pay. 

What the client quickly learned was that profit means nothing...
...if you cannot keep track of the cash. 

Don't let this be your story. 

At least quarterly, make sure to that your P&L makes sense in relation to your bank account. 

So what's the most important number in your business? Your cash balance.

One of my clients came to me last year trying to get ahead of their 2024 tax bill. 

Their spouse recently finished their residency and went from resident money to close to a $1M seemingly overnight. 

They were open to buying real estate and wanted to see how that could help them from a tax perspective. 

We talked about how much time they had available, who would be responsible and whether or not this was something they could see themselves doing long term. 

Based on that conversation, we decided to use the short term rental strategy. 

That strategy cut their income by $200K...
...and gave them a $90K refund. 

They're now going to reinvest that money into future projects. 

That's the beauty and benefit of tax planning.
