Really tough. 

Particularly in this market. 

But if you're willing to commit to the search and back yourself.

Then the right role is out there for you.

But it won't be handed to you. 

And the great thing about the job search... 

Is that the actual search can sharpen your skills necessary to succeed in the role.

-building resilience and handling rejections
-reflecting on feedback to build a growth mindset
-driving your accountability… because only you can help yourself
-improving your communication skills through interview/screening practice

There aren’t many careers where you can learn so many transferable skills.

Working late all the time doesn't always mean you're working harder.

Most of the time you've been less productive during the day. 

Distractions are getting the better of you.

I used to fall victim to this a lot. 

And still do. 

To help me I do a couple of things at the end of the day:

✅ A small 'to-do' list
✅ A LinkedIn post ready
✅ Plenty of tasks in my Apollo for the day

If I've got that in place then I typically have a productive day.

It's far from perfect, but it helps me.

P.S. Then I get on LinkedIn in the morning and my day goes to s%^t. Who can relate?!

If you're applying for a role, make sure you know what the role involves 🙄 

Spend 10-15 minutes looking up the role and career opportunities. 

(This was for an SDR role)

Don't tell me you're all set on this specific role type. 

Then, when I ask you what do you know about it?

You can't give me an answer. 

Luckily, he took the feedback well and understood. 

But in a candidate-rich market. 

Don't just smash the easy apply button on LinkedIn all day. 

Thinking you'll get a job.

P.S. Do the basics. And do them well. 

'All sales roles are commission only'

I spoke to a candidate yesterday who had just been told this by a company.

Luckily, she thought this didn't sound right. 

Strangely, it was by a company that offers... 

You guessed it.

Commission-only roles...

Surely you don't have to lie to people to get them to work for you?

Fair play to people who do these types of roles 👏

P.S. I've never done a commission-only role. Have you? 

Sending content to prospects should feel like a value add. 

Not be a burden on their time. 

Rather than expecting someone to listen to a podcast for an hour. 

Timestamp a part of it that might be relevant to them. 

-A key takeaway 
-A controversial statement
-An assumption on a problem they have

By sending a video asking for feedback. 

Doesn't feel right.

Or is that just me?

P.S. Maybe I was having a bad day yesterday?!

People buy from people (who solve their problems)

And people work with people (and robots these days)

So when you're applying for a new role. 

It's important to be yourself.

Not overly casual and informal.

But also not stiff and too formal. 

Show vulnerability if you're asked a personal question. 

Not a perfectly polished answer or what you think they want to hear. 

It never comes across well.
