Workforce Training & Education Coordinating Board

Co-Managed the first in the nation state level Future of Work Task Force, created by legislation, populated by business, labor and legislative leaders.  Researched and produced seminal report, linked below, outlining 17 specific recommendations to help usher business, workers and government into the 21st century "future of work".  Several recommendations were adopted by the state of Washington within 2 years, including the collection of occupational data and a substantial increase in job skills training.

Success in this position required a panoply of skills, deft handling of multiple interests and personalities, ability to see the big picture while maintaining a keen eye for accuracy and detail, willingness to learn new ideas and appreciate differing perspectives, digging deeply into government economic and employment data to gain insight for policy development, actively reaching out and collaborating with a wide range of constituencies across the education, non-profit, small business, union and workforce development sectors and working with a co-manager to manage several 3-4 hour task force meetings, prepare agendas, arrange meeting speakers from out of state/out of region, set up statewide research tours, help task force members articulate positions and manage the sometimes messy process of getting unique viewpoints to mesh by a mandated deadline.

Board Member

Came on with MaxSet soon after its first successful test of its uniquely powerful search software.  Helped company grow from a 2 person engineering team to a business with a federal government customer under a new SBIR innovation program.

While at MaxSet, wrote and developed first website content, helped company brand itself through blogs, social media presence, event attendance and other methods.

Drove substantial national and international traffic to MaxSet website via effective cloud demo and unique content showing MaxSet capabilities.

Conducted successful test of MaxSet software in academic research with a professor and students at a Midwestern university, demonstrating MaxSet's capability in super fast text search.

Set up demos with potential customers, gathering valuable feedback that fed the development of MaxSearch 2.0 that was deemed worthy by the U.S. Air Force's AFWERX program.

Developed relationships and interest from angel investors, pitching several and again using valuable feedback to improve business practices, user interfaces and revenue models.

Worked with subject matter experts in health care, aerospace and law to socialize MaxSet to industry and its value to knowledge workers.

Brought financial and budget savvy to the company and helped manage limited funds while improving and marketing the brand effectively.  Performed actions that were critical to keeping the company alive during development of MaxSearch 2.0 before revenue was recognized.

Upon leaving MaxSet, the company had received a Phase I SBIR grant, of which I was instrumental in securing.  Due to my efforts, MaxSet had become a known entity in the Seattle area, had generated investor interest and was on solid footing to be in a position for the $600,000+ Phase II SBIR award, which I helped the company obtain.

Washington Technology Industry Association

Managed all aspects of government and external affairs for 30 year old, high-tech trade association. Worked with elected officials and policymakers at the state, federal and local levels,  business leaders, and media on issues of importance to Washington state's technology sector.
Influenced and shaped public policies affecting software, mobile, wireless, video game and other technology clusters in Washington state.

Supported regional efforts to build tech-based economic clusters.

Liaised regularly with visiting international delegations.
Participated and led economic development activities that promoted WA's technology sector.

Managed all aspects of government relations for a trade association of Public Utility Districts (PUDs).  Primary lobbyist responsible for achieving legislation that allowed PUDs to offer telecom backbone service.  This was the largest increase in PUDs powers since the inception of PUDs by initiative in the 1930's
