My core mission has always been to empower students, instilling in them the belief that they hold immense importance, possess inherent power, and can truly make a difference in the world. My students acquire knowledge and develop invaluable skills. They graduate with confidence in their ability to tackle challenges, adeptly gather and analyze pertinent information, and present well-founded, data-driven solutions to decision-makers, whether that's their supervisor or themselves. In my classroom I cultivate a nurturing and inclusive environment where students feel safe to explore, learn, and evolve into their best selves.

Innovating in education has been a cornerstone of my career. I spearheaded online teaching methodologies back in the early 2000s and continued to lead the charge with dynamic and engaging online instruction throughout the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recognized as an exceptional online educator, I've had the privilege of mentoring numerous faculty members, guiding them to elevate their online teaching prowess.

It was a special privilege to serve as the faculty advisor to the Women in Business student organization from its founding.  WIB focused on developing and supporting up and coming female leaders through leadership development, connections with outstanding women leaders, and opportunities for service.

My contributions extend beyond the classroom as well. I've authored over 100 peer-refereed journal publications, book chapters, and conference presentations, two of which have received prestigious awards for their excellence in research.

Professor of Marketing

During my tenure as Vice Provost I reported to the Chief Academic Officer and led teams which spearheaded significant organizational and cultural transformations. 

Implemented a groundbreaking shift in the tenure & promotion process, transitioning from an outdated, inefficient system to an all-digital cloud-based platform. This transformation enhanced security, efficiency, and timeliness of reviews, reducing workload for staff, improving access to materials for committee members, and instilling clarity and confidence in the process for faculty members.

Successfully launched the Center for Faculty Excellence, engaging 70% of faculty members in the inaugural year. Introduced impactful programs including a revamped New Faculty Orientation, a Research Accountability Program, a Faculty Book Club, and a Peer Coaching Program. Over 40% of faculty participated in ACUE’s Course in Effective Teaching Practices, enhancing instructional quality and effectiveness.

Established the Center for Academic Success, focusing on university-wide initiatives to enhance student success, retention, and academic advising. Achieved an 8.6% increase in fall-to-fall retention over two years and a 7% increase in first-year retention for students in exploratory advising.

Introduced the Teaching Incentive Program (TIP) Awards to recognize and incentivize contributions in instructional excellence and productivity. Implemented the first campus-wide teaching portfolio program, promoting continuous improvement and reflection on teaching activities, and fostering a culture valuing teaching excellence.

Pioneered the first comprehensive evaluation system for academic deans, incorporating 360-degree feedback to enhance accountability, transparency, and effectiveness in leadership roles within the academic community.

Vice Provost

I led the successful integration of two colleges of business, seamlessly merging teams and streamlining processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Collaboratively, we crafted innovative programs and initiatives aimed at bolstering student success. A pivotal aspect of this endeavor was the transformation of two separate teams of academic advisors into a unified and cohesive unit. Through targeted coaching and development initiatives, I empowered advisors to deliver exceptional customer service, resulting in accolades and recognition for their outstanding performance.

A key focus of this merger was developing and amplifying the brand presence of the new College of Business, fostering strong relationships with both internal stakeholders and external partners. Our strategic initiatives not only enhanced visibility but also solidified our reputation as a beacon of excellence in business education

I spearheaded the launch of the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society at the College, enriching the academic landscape and recognizing exceptional student achievements. This accomplishment underscores our commitment to excellence and academic distinction.

Breaking the Glass Ceiling 

Breaking the Glass Ceiling served as a catalyst for empowering over 1,500 women, championing female excellence, and inspiring individuals to shatter their own barriers. Through spotlighting senior executives, business owners, judges, physicians, academic leaders, political figures, and community leaders, BTGC shared the remarkable journeys of more than 65 exceptional women, shedding light on the very real challenges they encountered on their paths to success. Breaking the Glass Ceiling focused on celebrating women's achievements, fostering empowerment, and promoting inclusivity.

In a significant milestone, Breaking the Glass Ceiling was showcased on Lakeshore PBS during Women’s History Month programming, reaching over 3.5 million households in Northwest Indiana, Chicago, and surrounding areas. This exposure provided a platform to amplify the voices and achievements of women, fostering greater recognition and appreciation for their contributions.

In 2021, Breaking the Glass Ceiling forged a partnership with the Northwest Indiana Influential Women's Association, leading to the expansion of its programming. Evolving into a series of intimate and candid one-on-one conversations, BTGC provided a forum for authentic dialogue and shared experiences among women leaders.

In response to evolving needs and circumstances, BTGC transitioned its programming to a virtual format for the first time in 2021. Leveraging social media platforms such as Facebook Live and YouTube, BTGC continued to showcase trailblazers and facilitate meaningful discussions, ensuring accessibility and engagement across diverse audiences.

As the innaugural Associate Dean at the University I led all marketing, recruitment, and retention efforts and orchestrated comprehensive strategies to elevate the College's profile and attract top-tier talent. One of my proudest achievements was establishing an exceptional undergraduate advising team, whose excellence was acknowledged through induction into the esteemed Society of Innovators and recognition as the university's best. Through cultivating a culture of unparalleled customer service and proactive retention, we fostered a supportive environment where students thrive.

I championed the development of a comprehensive suite of marketing collateral, effectively branding the College and showcasing the remarkable accomplishments of our students, faculty, and staff. These efforts not only bolstered our visibility but also reinforced our commitment to excellence and innovation.

Associate Dean for Enrollment Management

Founding director of the flagship program for the College of Business.  Managed a multi-million dollar yearly budget and generated $3,500,000 in net profit which financed strategic initiatives for the College. The program earned recognition from Fortune Magazine as a “best value” for Executive MBA programs. 

Recruited and taught more than 500 executive level students over 15 years providing them with cutting edge and constantly evolving curricula including an emphasis on leadership, business analytics, and international business.  Pushed the technology envelope by transitioning from physical books to all digital delivery of instructional materials. Provided students with assessments and coaching for professional development.

Developed and executed integrated marketing campaigns which resulted in significant brand awareness growth for the program, college, and university through effective use of Chicago-area media including CTA transit advertising and radio campaigns on WBBM and NPR, direct mail, and Google AdWords campaigns.

Director, MBA for Executives Program

As the leader of the largest and most diverse department in the School of Management I spearheaded transformative initiatives and achieved significant and measurable outcomes.

Recruiting top-tier faculty members and providing them with mentorship and guidance through the tenure and promotion processes was instrumental in fostering academic excellence within the department. As a result, we experienced substantial growth, with enrollment increasing by over 22% and credit hour generation by more than 32%.

To ensure our programs remained relevant and competitive, I led efforts to revise and update multiple programs, introducing innovative offerings such as a major in equine management and minors in both equine management and non-profit management. These additions enriched our curriculum and provided students with diverse educational pathways.

In line with our commitment to scholarly excellence, I coached faculty members towards a more research-focused emphasis, leading to a significant increase in research productivity over an eight-year period. I secured securing over $200,000 in funding to endow the Hugh G. Daubek Memorial Scholarship, which continues to provide multiple $3,000 scholarships annually, supporting deserving students in their academic pursuits.

I initiated the establishment of the Purdue University Calumet chapter of Alpha Mu Alpha, the prestigious marketing honor society, providing students with valuable opportunities for recognition and networking within their field.

I initiated and led a leadership development program for Department Chairs that grew from informal monthly meetings among Chairs to a structured year-long program fully funded by the Provost's office and led by an external consultant.  The program included 360 assessments, training, and coaching.

University Cellar Bookstore

The University Cellar was established as a nonprofit bookstore at the University of Michigan in 1969. During its 18-year existence it captured 45% of the student market, reaching annual sales of over $6 million. The store led the market in determining prices on textbooks by discounting new books by 5%. In its earlier years it forced reduction of local prices on photo-copying from a 10 cent per page standard to 4 cents, and it provided the lowest prices in town on records.

I haven’t been to many in-person non-work related events this year.

Really the last few years. 

And if I’m being super transparent, I just haven’t been in the mood to get dressed up and go out all the time.

Maybe it’s the after effects of the pandemic.

Maybe it’s been the ongoing adjustments to different phases of motherhood.

Maybe it’s simply getting a little older every year.

Probably a mix of all three.

Even though I teach networking, and we’re often told to attend all the events and meet all the people, I just haven’t been interested.

These days, I like to get my work done, relax, and love on my family.

That’s one reason I really love LinkedIn.

It allows me to connect, network, and build meaningful, mutually beneficial relationships from the comfort of my resting place.

Some of those virtual connections have opened beautiful doors for me.


There’s nothing like in-person connection, but if you’re in a season where you’re just not feeling it, that’s okay.
