Qualcomm

As a Staff Engineer - I supported Qualcomm's CAD/CAE/PWB design activity. 

Projects:

High Density Interconnects (HDI) - I collaborated with industry experts to bring micro-via and HDI design rules to modern cell phone designs.

Autorouting – introduced shaped based routing technology. Worked with Mentor Graphics to implement their Xtreme AR technology for large designs.

Electrical Constraints - as circuit speeds evolved I helped implement a high speed constraint driven design methodology.

Circuit Replication and Reuse - as Qualcomm IC volumes grew I developed circuit replication strategies to help manage large IC test designs. I introduced hierarchical schematics and automation while working with Mentor Graphics, Cadence and EMA to provide solutions using their tools.

Collaboration and Concurrency – promoted technology that enabled multiple Engineers and Designers to work simultaneously on the same design. Includes Mentor's Xtreme PCB & Cadence's Team Design tools.

Co-Design – developed a Die/Package/PCB Co-Design process. Utilized Mentor Package Integrator and/or Cadence SiP tools. Supplied designs to the Power and Signal Integrity group (PSIG) to help simulate critical interfaces and Power Delivery Networks. Optimized Qualcomm ASIC chips for Industrial Design, Performance and Cost.

Customer Engineering – helped provide reference designs. Created award winning reference designs for iPhone, Nexus and Fire TV.

Troubleshooting - monitored CAD tool issues and problems. Worked with vendors to document issues, provide solutions and develop procedures. 

PWB Design Process - created checklists and documented design procedures.

Training – authored material and taught classes. Traveled to remote sites and developed online videos.

Evaluations – CAD tools from Mentor Graphics, Cadence, Altium, Zuken and other vendors. 

Translations – converted designs for CAD migrations and to provide customers with reference designs in their native CAD tool format.
