Our number one priority at Home-Start Cymru is to "Support families across Wales to live happy, healthy lives so that they can give their children the best start in life". 

As Head of Operations for Wales, my goal is to support our CEOs national vision; to help lead and support our staff and volunteers deliver our projects; to manage our systems and processes effectively; and to ensure that we deliver the best possible service where it matters most - in the hearts and minds of our children and families.

There is no better way to benefit society as a whole, and generations to come, than to help children achieve their fullest potential. 

In support of this, the Children's Commissioner has established an adult Advisory Panel to provide strategic and constructive advice for her three year national strategy. 

Members will consider how the Commissioner’s remit and powers can be used to best effect to improve outcomes for children and young people in Wales. 

Reporting directly to the Commissioner, members are required to assist in:

- Establishing the strategic direction for the organisation;
- Scrutinising the implementation of three year strategic plans and annual work plans; and
- Monitoring and reviewing operational performance and delivery for effectiveness.

SPECTACLE THEATRE LIMITED

Spectacle Theatre is a charity that utilises performance arts and communal relationships to help support vulnerable young people in need. Our goal is to promote, maintain and advance education, particularly by the production of educational theatre and the encouragement of the arts. By supporting social engagement and confidence building activities, children and young people are empowered to participate and ultimately be seen, heard and respected. Many of these activities also help to teach C&YP about important topics such as safeguarding, sexual exploitation, substance misuse and gang affiliation.

Trustees are responsible for the joint management of the organisation. They collaborate with the rest of the board as the governing body in order to ensure that all types of management decisions are made with the best interests of all stakeholders at heart.

Valleys to Coast

At Valleys to Coast our purpose is to "Provide homes and places where people feel safe and happy"

My role within that, with support and collaboration of colleagues, is to Design, Develop and Deliver professional leadership training programmes that help us all achieve the ambitions of our strategic plan and over all purpose. 

Because if we want a stable and thriving society, the best place to start, is with stable and thriving homes.

Leadership Management Trainer 

Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council

Committed service delivery in line with Legislation, Regulations, Social Care Codes of Conduct and other relevant governing guidelines. 

Leadership management and supervision of multiple teams and staff including recruitment, induction, probation, appraisals and performance management. 

Training and development of staff, supporting the specific needs and wellbeing of children with complex behavioural issues.

Utilisation of therapeutic and psychological models used to support childrens needs. Pyschologically Informed Environment (PIE), Trauma Informed Care (TIC), Trauma Recovery Model (TRM), PACE, DDP, ACEs/PCEs etc. 

Referrals, admissions, pathway planning, transitions and resettlement. 

Child Centred Care Planning. Knowledge of the Care Assessment Framework (CAF) 

Safeguarding and Child Protection. 

Investigations of serious events and complaints. 

Championing Children's Rights and promoting child informed core values. 

Ensuring children have access to leisure activities, play with the promotion of independent living skills and positive development. 

EBD, ASD, ADHD, Positive Behaviour Support, Relationship Building, Diffusion, Calming Techniques, Reflective Practice, Conflict Resolution, Restorative Justice, Physical Management Support. 

Quality management, assurance, control and audits of systems, processes and service outputs. CPD.

Networking with external stake holders to communicate effectively such as families, social workers, local councillors, MPs, judges, the Children's Commissioners office. 

Support CIW inspections and service improvements. 

Promoting equality and diversity, and anti discriminatory practice. (E+D Advisor) 

Health and Safety management.

Budget management. 

Duty Manager - dual role managing the live operations of the centre periodically for 24 hours at a time.

Stepping Stones Care Services (South Wales) Ltd

Main purpose :

Help lead all aspects of the physical and emotional care of children with very challenging behaviour in order to promote welfare and professional development, whilst working in partnership with families and professionals.

Main activities :

Develop relationships between children, staff, families and professionals.

Develop teams and individuals to enhance service provision.

Ensure effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources

Ensure self and staff comply with legal requirements, policies and procedures and financial regulations.

Assist in effective management of information in order to enhance communication to promote informed decision making. 

To receive, store, transmit and retrieve information in line with legislation and company policy.

Help lead planning, co-ordination and implementation of projects, procedures and implementation of quality assurance.

Promote a positive physical, social and emotional environment for children. 

Provide a safe, nurturing and stimulating transition into personal independence. 

Promote equality, diversity and rights and responsibilities of individual children and staff.

Assess health and well being, assist the maintenance of a positive sense of self identity whilst promoting and maximising their educational opportunities and achievements.

Management of staff and children with challenging behaviour in a residential setting.

Administration of systems and processes. Leadership regarding professional practice. Role modelling at all times of junior staff and children in order to inspire positive development.

Creation of behaviour strategies, individual risk assessments and care plans tailored to suit each childs safeguarding and on going needs.

Conduct observations and supervisions of staff to maintain professional practice and quality assurance in order to surpass the legal standards required.

Goal setting in order to achieve positive outcomes for young people.

Work as part of a multi disciplinary team both within the home and with external agencies and professionals concerning issues such as mental health, sexual exploitation and drug and alcohol awareness.

Assist young people to identify unsafe, dangerous, harmful and abusive situations, individuals and groups.

At all times ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the children and young people.

Ensure staff are aware of and deliver the support required to ensure the life chance opportunities of children and young people are met in relation to their social, educational, leisure, emotional, physical and cultural needs.

Project Manager - Utilise project relevant models and processes to plan, resource, manage, administer and be responsible for ensuring that projects are completed on time, in budget and to the quality expected by our customers. 

Leadership management of a variety of teams with technical expertise. Being a conduit between many professionals with both specific and broad skills in order to gather resources, and deliver solutions and outcomes.

Project Manager

British Army

Commissioned from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and joined the Royal Welsh Regiment to take over the command of a Platoon of 35 soldiers. Responsible for their training, education, fitness and welfare in a secure residential setting. Deployed to Afghanistan in 2012 for 7 months with my Platoon.

Promoted to Captain and was responsible for the leadership and supervision of very well experienced corporals and sergeants in order to develop and train several hundred recruits through the Infantry Training Centre Catterick.

Stepped in as Divisional Second in Command, managing and administering the 26 week residential training course for up to 360 recruits in line with my Officer Commandings' direction. This required helping to lead 30 corporals, 8 Sergeants and 8 Junior Officers.

Core Skills:

• Leadership –  Adept at delivering maximum potential from teams through compassionate personnel management, leadership by way of example and a constant demand for the delivery of success. 

• Communication – Equally adept at verbal or written briefing and a wealth of experience within the interviewing and reporting spheres.

Captain in the British Army

Planning, resourcing and running of youth clubs for up to 30 children aged between 6 and 15 in a variety of locations. Galvanizing young peoples involvement in fun extra curricular functional activities. Promotion of structure, discipline and the importance of having respect for others. Additional experience of dealing with problematic and aggressive children.

Risk assessments, session planning, budget management, allocation of resources and event location selection in order to ensure a safe and fun social environment. 

Outcomes cultivated include: positive attachments and relationships, confidence building, promoting team work, personal responsibility, but ultimately an opportunity to learn and improve childrens social skills by cultivating engaging opportunities to play.

Remember to share with children & young people too, especially if they already have mobiles & social media. 


🛡️1. Turn off location/GPS so photos don’t reveal where you/they are.

🛡️2. Avoid school logos, uniforms, or home addresses in the picture.

🛡️3. Don’t post in real time – always share later.

🛡️4. Keep accounts private & limit who can see or download photos.

🛡️5. Be very careful with skimpy clothing, innocent bath time pics, or of things like babies/toddlers with bums exposed. 

🛡️6. Avoid posting routines or regular locations (school run, clubs, home).

🛡️7. Don’t include full names, dates of birth or personal details.

🛡️8. Check tags, resharing and saving settings to stop others spreading the photo.

🛡️9. Ask your child’s permission before posting. They have rights, and we are responsible for protecting them. 

🛡️10. Agree family rules so relatives don’t share without checking.
