I am a litigation assistant with eight years of experience as a document controller. I was fortunate to be coached and trained in my craft by senior litigators who inspired me to work hard, strive to explore better and more efficient ways of working, and use my creative skills in support of the organization goals of the firms. My primary responsibilities at work involved case preparation and being a dedicated support of the firm’s lawyers. There is no substitute for detailed preparation, working to a carefully crafted litigation plan, and quality control. I was taught that trials are won, and lost, based on the thoroughness of a lawyer’s brief. Helping a lawyer prepare for trial is a rewarding experience, particularly when there is a successful outcome. At that point, I take comfort in knowing that I contributed to the outcome. Law is a client-focused industry. I excel in effective and positive communication with clients. I am known as an initiative-taker and ‘own’ my work, ensuring that diary dates are met, files are well maintained, and tasks are clearly documented and managed. This is crucial in order to provide excellent client service and contribute to the law firm’s success. My education background has allowed me to explore new procedures and approaches to my role as a legal assistant. Having successfully completed a Diploma in Business Communications, with a Major in Visual Communications Production. I understand the importance of using an evidence-based decision-making approach to my work including consistent and descriptive file naming and conventions. I can easily adapt to challenging situations and work well under pressure. I am extremely well organized and can turn even the most chaotic desks into a functioning workspace. My integrity is fundamental to me, and I fully recognize the importance of working hard on behalf of the clients.
