As the driving force behind national digital health clinical governance, I navigate complexities, optimise budgets, and lead transformative culture changes that empower our organisation to deliver safe, innovative health technologies and services. By leveraging my network, I propel the national agenda forward, enabling collaboration, and shaping the future of digital health.
As a leader in national digital health, I manage a $2.5M clinical governance portfolio, integrating clinical safety across the Agency and embedding clinical leadership through our engagement service. My role involves empowering the Agency with a robust clinical governance framework, ensuring the efficient operation of the Clinical Governance Committee, and steering transformative enhancements to governance and safety management. I also harness networks to advance the national and international digital health clinical governance agenda, contributing to our mission of improving healthcare through technology and innovation.

Director, Clinical Governance

In my capacity as acting in an executive leadership role, I have responsibility for overseeing program management across four key sections within the branch: Interoperability Implementation, Conformance and Assurance, Digital Health and Aged Care Standards, and Connections. During this period, I guided the teams through a transitional phase following a restructuring initiative and mid-year budget review for an $18.5m budget. My role enabled uninterrupted workflow while managing high-profile projects and providing critical guidance to Directors in supporting their teams, in high profile work subject to public scrutiny.
I facilitated the successful delivery of the inaugural quarterly report relating to interoperability plan activities, and supported the third Council For Connected Care meeting focused on Standards.

In this executive acting role, I led program management for five sections in the branch, including Clinical Governance, Interoperability Implementation, Conformance and Assurance, Digital Health and Aged Care Standards, and Compliance Outreach. I oversaw executive engagement by leading the development of senate estimates papers and progress reports for the senior executive committee. I led the branch through budget repair efforts and advising on realignments and repair actions. I supported the preparation of the Council For Connected Care and coordinated acceptance of the National Interoperability Plan from jurisdictions across Australia.

The fundamentals of clinical governance can apply to any industry and is effectively "good governance" for any organisation that touches the health and care sector 🤗 

What underpins clinical governance (or health and care governance as I prefer to call it!) is a culture of safety and security (of people and systems), quality (of service and product) and continuous improvement (to learn, change, grow, stay curious).

Governance is needed for our patients, clients, customers, students, consumers, users, employees, members - whomever it is that you deliver your service for. Without them, what we do won't matter!
