🚨 More major developments on corporate accountability, community rights, and fossil-fuel transparency in this week's climate litigation updates. 

Communities in Lesotho challenged a transboundary water project they say has been greenwashed, while Tyson Foods agreed to drop misleading “net-zero” and “climate-smart beef” claims in a landmark settlement. In the UK, Shell disclosed that its Jackdaw gas field could emit CO₂ equivalent to 20 million cars, following legal action forcing full emissions accounting.

Here’s what else is new as of this week:

𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚: A Kenyan court cleared Taifa Gas to build Africa’s largest LPG terminal in Mombasa, confirming full environmental compliance. In Lesotho, communities filed a greenwashing claim with the African Development Bank.

𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞: Austria appealed the EU ruling upholding nuclear energy as “sustainable” under the Taxonomy Regulation. In Spain, ClientEarth and Oceana sued the government for permitting destructive bottom trawling in Marine Protected Areas.

𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚: The Philippine Supreme Court was petitioned to strike down DENR’s restrictive FOI rules, which block access to environmental records critical for public scrutiny.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐊: The Supreme Court will hear a case on removing cost caps for environmental lawsuits, with major implications for access to justice. Also, following a legal win earlier this year, Shell disclosed emissions for Jackdaw gas field.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬: Environmental groups sued FERC over fossil-fuel-favouring grid plans in the Southwest Power Pool and MISO, and challenged NorthWestern Energy’s plans to supply massive Montana data centres. The Ninth Circuit temporarily blocked California’s SB 261 climate-risk disclosure law ahead of its January deadline. The federal government moved to intervene in litigation challenging Hawai‘i’s new “Green Fee,” and groups sued to block an 80-million-acre Gulf oil lease sale.
