Manatee Holdings Ltd. is a large commercial fishing and aquaculture company on Vancouver Island. This company is working for a beneficial change to be the profitable ecological caretakers of the ocean. Manatee Holdings Ltd. had given more than a million dollars of job opportunities in the Comox Valley for local employment in the last 3 years.

It sustainably harvests Geoduck clams and sea cucumbers from wild fisheries.  The company is currently spearheading the shift from fishing to aquaculture of these two species.

Manatee Holdings Ltd. specializes in harvesting gourmet foods from the sea mostly for the sushi market.  They have been doing this for 30 years.  About 20 years ago, they decided that the fisheries were being mined out and began process of shifting their revenues towards the development of environmentally beneficial ocean ranching of the species that they specialize in harvesting from the wild. They are continuing to spear head this new industry into place which we believe is a food production model that in time will be followed by people throughout the world as it does away with the inherent flaws to be found in the systems of management for wild fisheries, agriculture, and other forms of aquaculture.  They have created a commercial hatchery facility in a residential area that borders on an estuarian area.  The facility now only adds to the ambiance and property values of the residential neighbourhood, it also enhances the ecology of the estuarian area.  They have created a system of aquaculture that is non-disturbing to coastal residence.  They have created a system of aquaculture, unlike most other aquacultural operations, that is invisible to the eye, and non-disturbing to coastal residents.

🎥 A Moment to Remember

Last year, I had the incredible opportunity to meet one of the most iconic figures in show business, Kevin Costner  🙌. During #MegaSuccess, he shared with JT Foxx his inspiring journey—nearly a decade of hard work, setbacks, and perseverance—before achieving the success he envisioned with Dances with Wolves, a film that redefined his career.

What struck me most was his message about time horizons. In a world obsessed with instant results, we often underestimate how much time, effort, and faith it takes for something truly great to emerge. Think about Google acquiring YouTube when it wasn’t profitable—vision often precedes value.

As we step into this New Year, I find myself reflecting on a profound question posed by Buckminster Fuller:
“What is the most important thing we can be thinking about now?”

For me, it’s sustainability. Not just in business, but in life. How can we create systems and habits today that will endure and thrive tomorrow? What about 2035? 2135?  These are the questions driving my work and vision for the future.

So, as we embark on this journey together, I challenge all of us to think long-term, to act with intention, and to remember that what we build today shapes the world for generations to come.

David M. Walker has more than 40 years of public, private, and no-profit sector leadership experience.  He has received 3 presidential appointments, all with unanimous Senate confirmation.  Walker's experience includes 10-years as Comptroller General of the US and CEO of the US Government Accountability Office (GAO).  Currently a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the US Naval Academy, he is also a member of various non-profit boards and advisory groups, including the Defense Business Board (DBB).  Walker is also a best selling author with significant speaking, writing, commentator, and congressional testimony experience.

What is your definition of success? 

In November, I had the honour of hearing Mason Sawyer speak, and his story redefined success for me in ways I never imagined. He lost his wife, son, daughter, brother, and nephew in a tragic car accident, leaving him with a 4 year old son to raise alone. Yet through unimaginable pain, he found the strength to help others embrace grief.

Today, Mason hosts the "1090" podcast, where he shares his belief that life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond. His message challenges us to consider that true “success” isn’t just about wealth, fame, or achievements—it’s about the courage to fully live, love, and grow even after devastating loss.

I met this "fun" gentleman, Hugh hilton two years ago via JT Foxx's #megasuccess event.  Hugh co-founded A&M Capital Real Estate in 2009 and serves as its Chief Executive Officer.

He is an A&M veteran with a rare combination of corporate turnaround and restructuring, commercial real estate restructuring, and private equity real estate investment and asset management experience:

Hugh has worked in a principal or investing capacity on $5.5 billion of commercial real estate assets and in a key advisory role on over $2 billion of CRE assets. 

Prior to originally joining A&M in 1992, Hugh had a 15+ year career in institutional real estate, working primarily in a principal capacity on behalf of public and private U.S. pension funds, trusts, and a variety of international investors, involving all major asset classes (including hospitality) across multiple market cycles.

Between 1992 and 2008, Hugh was involved in 28 corporate restructuring, turnaround, and performance improvement engagements – both in and out of court – at a wide variety of public reporting and private companies on behalf of debtor, creditor, and private equity clients; he filled interim senior management roles of Chairman, CEO, President, and/or Chief Restructuring Officer at 14 of those companies

Hugh received a BBA (with high distinction; James B. Angell Scholar) from the University of Michigan, an MBA (with distinction) from the University of Michigan, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Colorado (with a concentration in real property law). Hugh is a member of the Counselors of Real Estate, the Urban Land Institute, and the Colorado Bar Association.
