I explore the cutting edge of technology - a journey that starts with people and value. My crew and I travel on a rocket ship to the frontiers of applied science powered by computers and algorithms. I have always been fascinated by the wonders of the earth and space. As a child, I drew and sent plans for spaceships to NASA inspired by the accomplishments of human space exploration - a passion of mine to this day. On earth, my grandparents put a hammer in my hand and showed me the wonders and treasures hidden beneath our feet. Attending the Mining University of Leoben allowed me to turn this fascination into my profession. During my Bachelor’s in Petroleum Engineering, I enjoyed a vast education in foundational sciences, and through elective courses, I expanded my technical understanding beyond the world of oil & gas. During this time, at university, I realized it was the hard, unsolved problems that drive and motivate me. That is how I started getting into research, and this motivation ultimately led me to pursue a PhD. My craftsman toolbox to solve technical puzzles is made of digital devices - computers, that I have learned to harness through the language of programming. A skill that I continue to hone, and which enabled many of my successes, of my co-workers, and clients. I’m honoured to have crossed paths with many great minds. The research and achievements that they’ve enabled me to perform have been awarded through prizes, such as the John Archer Award for research excellence, the best paper award for a leading journal, and patents. More importantly, though, I have been fortunate to inspire others to explore what machines can teach us by teaching students and young professionals through courses I co-created, such as the machine learning module at Imperial College’s Applied Computational Sciences Master’s programme. Seeing my own learnings inspire others through the open-source code, datasets, and publications I have shared motivates me to continue along this path. More recently, I combine my acuity for cutting edge technology with my practical and applied skillset to create value-driven solutions. More importantly, I believe it doesn’t *always* have to be cutting edge, as long as it solves a concrete problem, or makes people's lives better, in a professional or personal sense. Building technology and applications that make people happy, whether in their professional or personal matters is a privilege that I strive to continue to enjoy and share for many more years and with many people throughout my future career.
